The past two days (since the robbery), she has been hypervigilant, barking or growling at every little noise in the hallway. I think the whole experience messed with her head. My cat I’m sure just ran and hid, like she always does with strangers, but my dog would have stood there barking her head off the whole time. I have a feeling they literally kicked her out of their way, too. I just feel bad for her.
I know I’m paranoid, too; I’ve barely left my apt unattended at all the past two days, though I am going to try to overcome that paranoia some by going over my friend’s house today. I was going to go earlier this morning, but he wasn’t home. I just hope I don’t come home to find a busted-in door again … I can’t stay in this apt forever, though, have to take that chance at some point.
Yeah, that’s my thinking. I plan to go to my friend’s house fairly soon, whenever he gets home, probably watch some college football. I’m definitely going to his house tomorrow for NFL football, the Lions game in particular, first game of the season.
But yeah, need to start venturing out of my apartment little by little. I’ll be gone for twelve hours on Monday, if I end up working an actual full day. I looked and I’m not on the online schedule for Monday, so I have no idea what I will be doing after our 7 am meeting.
You ought to get a board, saw a notch in one end, and prop it against the door knob, and use some kind of furniture to keep it from sliding on the floor when someone pushes on your door. That will prevent people from kicking in your door.
Doing something like that would only help for when I’m at home. I’m more concerned about what happens when I’m not here. People around here know which car is mine, so they know if I am gone. That would just feed my paranoia, anyway, and I am trying to do the opposite. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I still have nightmares where I am being intruded upon and the near run in with an intruder happened about five years ago…they took what they wanted and they won’t be back probably…I am so sorry you were robbed…
These days most security systems are wireless. You can get sensors that stick to the door, and send an alert to your phone when it’s opened. (Or set off a siren, call a monitoring company, etc.) They’re not hugely expensive. And they can move with you.
