I think I've discovered why conspiracy theories are popular now

Somebody tells me the earth is flat and trying to prove it is just embarassing i’m not falling for that crap,

That being said i do have fixed beliefs about the Chinese and the virus etc but whatever, i’m really worried about what they were doing in those labs :frowning: legitimate concerns mostly and maybe even a preludde to something even more sinister :frowning:

I dont blame myself for thinking these things, i am naturally suspicious

I love your avatar. It looks Mayan, maybe?

It is! And thank you!

It’s K’uk’ulk’an, the Maya serpent god. Well, it’s a public domain image of K’uk’ulk’an anyway.

I was watching Bill Maher the other night, and he claims it’s the prevalence of magical thinking due to the religiosity of our society that allows people to fall into conspiracy theory traps. I’m starting to think he might be right.

You welcome! I must have a good eye haha

Do you have Mayan heritage?

I have a little Aztec heritage in me, the Natives of Mexico.

I have flat earth friends and I listen don’t call anyone a nut job and they make compelling arguments, but I personally Want to accept what I always learned.

Yeah, I’ve moved away from a lot of mystical thinking. I’m more pragmatic, I take what works, and I believe in science a lot nowadays.

That being said, I still can’t explain some crazy stuff I’ve seen in my time.

I see conspiracy theories just as entertainment kinda like magicians but don’t really believe it. I guess some ppl get fun from it. But yeah it can be pretty bad for schizophrenics and the weakly minded.

Yes, my mother is descended from yucatec maya. I don’t speak it, not beyond a few dozen phrases anyway.

Aztec? Like, Nahua? Do you speak any Nahuatl?

How do you do brother/sister?!

No, I don’t speak Nahuatl.

Welcome to the forum though.

It’s an honor to speak to a Mayan.

I can’t hear any conspiracy theories anymore. I’m fed up with the BS. No the earth is not flat and we did go to the moon.

my daughter says the same about LGBTQ, not an issue, that it’s been around since the beginning of time,
but what is new is the rise in suicide because of it. Why? I was bullied out of my junior high school, and didn’t attempt suicide, just moved on, got new friends.

Different people react in different ways. LGBTQ+ people have to deal with more than run of the mill bullying. They hear it from parents, clergy, teachers, students, and even so called friends. People actively want to hurt and kill people who are LGBTQ.

well, teachers have changed their tune, much to the chagrin of those parents or groups who throw up their arms.
I’m so glad Phil never did that with his gay son,
he says he knew when Dan was 9 years old,
and accepted it.

Some still do in certain areas. Like the Bible Belt. That poor girl at 8 thrown out of school for saying she had a crush on another girl.

hmm, sad. that other girl probably throw a fit, and told her parents, so not only was the girl thrown out, her heart was broken.

personal story, a good girl friend of my in 9th grade, we exchanged written notes addressed Lover Dover, and of course my mom found one in my pocket, and read it, and she called my friend’s mom and they discussed that it was a lesbian relationship they were concerned about it. It was in jest, it was just for fun!
but even if it was, what a backward attitude.
you’d have to know my mother, big Catholic, and never been to college.
