I think ECT made me stupid

I had a lot of ect about two years ago, and now it’s hard for me to spell and to remember facts. Anyone else like this? My spelling ability and ability to remember facts has not come back yet.

I had dozens of ECT treatments over 2 decades ago and, yes, I feel it has negatively affected my cognition and memory. I “lose” words constantly and have difficulty remembering things.

If I knew ect could do this kind of damage, I wouldn’t do it to begin with.

It’s a tough treatment for sure but sz made me dumb just the same…

I had problems with moving from English, English to American English and I was 30 at the time. Just still stuff up spellings in both countries because my mind is mush…

Is it the treatment or the disorder itself I’m not so sure? I suspect it’s a bit of both but my spelling is still shite!

I’m glad I didn’t do ECT. I did rTMS instead. It didn’t really help but it also didn’t do any permanent damage.

Interesting. We will probably never get concrete answers for what did what. Just going through one brief psychotic episode without meds or anything causes bad brain damage. Then theres the sedating and brainfog effect we can get from meds. And negative symptoms cause all kinds of cognitive issues. And problems arising from things like ect. So youd have to be extremely lucky to not be impaired in some way from any number of those things.
Sucks. I definitely feel a lot slower in the head compared to before i got sza as a teenager.

I don’t think I’d ever want this. Seems like electrocuting the brain hoping it does something is last resort.

Ive also have had many ECT treatments and I forget words alot and don’t ask me to remember a name.
