I take tons of meds and I still don't sleep

I take three AP’s, an SSRI antidepressant, and an anxiolytic for insomnia, and I still only got 3.75 hours of sleep last night. The problem is that I wake up too darn early in the morning. Around anywhere between 3am to 430am. That’s way too early when you retire at around midnight. What do I do about this? I’m up right now and wide awake. I’ve taken my morning meds. Hopefully in two hours they will knock me out.

I’m going to call and make an appointment with my pdoc to discuss all of this with him.

3.75 hours of sleep is better than none but I understand your concern if you are working a physically or mentally demanding job.

If this happened just a couple of times then I wouldn’t be so concerned.
But if this is an ongoing occurrence then yes, I think that talking to your psychiatrist would be warranted.
Good luck @SkinnyMe.

I take 300 mg of trazadone…works like a charm and it’s non addictive. might try that…if you are still having trouble sleeping it might mean you are unstable…I would tell your pdoc.

No, I don’t, thank goodness. I would really have problems if I had to hold down a job.

Trazodone is an anti depressant. I don’t want to be on a second anti depressant and then possibly go manic. I have to let my pdoc decide on what to do. I wake up very early in the morning more often than not.

I had a guy friend who had serious insomnia issues his whole life like he could go weeks without sleeping and had to take special vitamins/meds just to like keep him alive because of that basically. Even anesthesia doesn’t work on him so like he’s royally screwed if he ever has to get surgery. None of the sleep meds work on him.

I think there should be a lot more research into sleep as almost all mental disorders are comorbid with serious sleep issues and many physical health issues can be caused by sleep issues as well.

I wholeheartedly agree with you @Anna. So sorry for your guy friend. What is his first name?

I don’t want to risk anyone else’s privacy, nothing personal :relaxed:

I hope to be able to do some sleep research maybe in the future
