Would the testing actually benefit me or is it rather better to not do the testing?
Since I have normal intelligence, I won’t be registerable in the registry system that my country has. Largely, people like myself go undiagnosed because we have normal intelligence. I just don’t know if it’s worthwhile to get tested or it’s rather better to not get tested. I thought to myself that I function fine in academia and everything. Why do I bother getting tested? But I also struggle a lot with social cues and other social issues, and it kind of frustrates me at this point. I always thought I was different but I never knew why.
I’d say it’s probably better to get tested but there are some perks of being undiagnosed in some cases. I think I have Asperger’s (level 1 ASD) but I won’t get tested. I know my family will use it as another means of manipulating my life so I won’t bother for now.
I joined an Asperger’s support group locally a couple years ago and feel I am among people that have similar problems to me. I am not going to pay money to get diagnosed since there really isn’t treatment for me other than what I get currently for my sz. I think there were things they could have done for me as a child but my teachers weren’t all the brightest bulbs in catholic school.
