I’m sick and tired of being morbidly obese. I just hit 295 pounds and I refuse to be 300 so I stopped my invega. I stopped it yesterday and am already down 2 pounds. I already tried dieting and excercising with invega but I lost 6 pounds in a month to gain it all back plus 4 more in a week. I feel like this is saphris all over again. I gained 100+ pounds on that until we experimented with some other options and decided on invega. I started on the invega at 276 now I’m 295 ( well now 293 because of the loss). Just 3 years ago I was 175 and good for my build now I get winded when I go up stairs and I look a hot mess and I’m prediabetic. If you were in my situation what would you do? Tbh, I know I need the meds but I need to live and be able to move I don’t want to be one of those people that can’t move or become diabetic and have limbs cut off. Thanks for letting me talk about this.
I did the same thing and after day 5 I became psychotic and depressed and day 7 it was unmanageable and had to go back on my meds. I’m not obese just self-conscious. My doctor said “You just have to excercise” there was no stimulant he could give me to help me lose weight. Fortunately abilify doesn’t cause the worst weight gain but he said it not only adds appetite but it slows down the metabolism, that’s the real issue.
It’s something I’m going to have to learn to live with. But maybe try abilify because it seems to have the least weight gain. I’m like 170? But I’m not that tall so I’m slightly overweight and stressing it. I was 150 before he increased the dose and wish I could be that again but fortunately I don’t think I’ll be gaining any more weight. I shouldn’t be complaining because I don’t appear overweight, I’m just self-conscious.
I lost 5 pounds the week without abilify btw.
I feel cheated by the doctors. I couldn’t go 4 days without the meds. I had never felt so sick in my life. I went off them again last week for three days and ended up having to take a few days off work because I was so ill. I am on 20mg of Olanzapine, so not sure what your taking, just be aware that this could happen. I was in a right state.
Ya I’m on the shot so technically I only cut my meds in half, because I take half oral half of my meds on the shot, and I still became psychotic in 5 days.
My doctor said it proves I am a very “fragile case”.
I’m going to monitor myself. I went off saphris before and had to go back on due psychosis so I’m going to stay off for as long as I can because I’m at the point I’m damed if I do and damed if I don’t but something has to happen.
You stated you are down 2 pounds. These 2 pounds are most likely water weight, which comes back.
When part of MI treatment includes on-site physical activity trainers for those interested, weight gain and weight loss will be prevented.
When an online community member lost over 200 pounds by walking one hour a day and 3 hours every weekend day, he lost this weight after several months went by. The type of weight you would like to lose will require long term patience, support, physical activity and treatment. Stopping your meds cold turkey puts you and everything else at risk.
Some folks talk about medications they take to regulate weight gain. Have you spoken with your doctor about these types of medications?
I’m sorry your having to go off the meds to fight being pre-diabetic. I’m on Seroquel and due to the blood sugar rise it can cause… I got put on Metformin.
I’ve been reading about the weight loss it can cause as a side effect… and for me… sadly… it’s been causing me to loose weight.
This might be a discussion for your doc and a bit of research for some ideas?
I hope things go well. I just know that off my meds… I have about a week or so before I completely crumble.
I have an appointment with my therapist tomorrow and my pdoc on the 20th. I’m going to tell them what I’m doing and hopefully they can give me some better insight on I’m thinking maybe an injectable but I can’t stay on this. I’m going to die, I can see it.
I’ve been taking metformin for about a year now and I haven’t lost a pound. My doctor prescribed it because I’m prediabetic. I take Lipitor for my cholesterol and that have had great improvement with that medicine just no Weightloss.
