Abilify is driving me crazy

I need to switch meds. I don’t care what pdoc says, next session with her I am stopping Abilify and starting something else. I just can’t stand the akasthesia. Anyone have any suggestions of meds they didn’t gain weight on?

i can suggest invega sustenna.it s great drugs.i think you are female thats why you can talk with minnie.she is also invega sustenna users

only side effect can cause insomnia and some prolactine level raise but all of them can be easily tolerate

It’s worth also considering first generation meds as a lot of second generation meds can cause weight gain. I’m on depixol, I have a little restlessness and I’m slowly losing weight on it by dieting. I tolerate my med better than I did the abilify.

Conclusion:

Given prolonged exposure, virtually all AP are associated with weight gain. The rational of switching AP to achieve weight reduction may be overrated. In AP-naive patients, weight gain is more pronounced.

I’m losing weight on risperidone but this is not typical, it must definitely be because I am dieting strictly.

Seroquel could be a good idea, they say it helps you sleep.

I already really struggle with insomnia. The Abilify causes it really bad which is one reason why I want to quit it.

Old pdoc was going to prescribe me seroquel but I was too paranoid at the time to accept it. Right now it sounds like my best bet. I want something that makes me sleepy.

Yeah…that’s what my pdoc said too…but some are associated with more weight gain than others, for example Abilify you gain less weight than someone on clozaril. But I guess it also depends on the person.

I sleep like a baby on Invega sustenna (Xeplion in the EU), the only issue is the prolactin levels but I’m taking the injection every 5 weeks now and don’t have any side effects at the moment

And I didn’t gain much weight on it.

My old CPN said clozapine is really bad and you can see people gaining weight as soon as they are put on it.

It’s an injection? Eep. Does your pdoc give it to you?

Yeah, the nurses give it to me. (Sounds dirty, but it’s not )

A lot of the newer APs cause agitation/Akathisia.

I increased my Risperdal dose a bit back to 2.5mg and I have been experiencing some Akathisia and increased anxiety.

Abilify is well known to cause intense agitation and Akathisia.

Right now I’m off the wall. Feels like I took crack or something. Trembling. Need to go for a walk. Haven’t been able to focus on work all day.

I’m sorry that you are feeling so Amped up @Anna.

It’s a good idea, talk to your pdoc about it.

Hi @Anna I took invega tablets and only gained about 8kg which isn’t really much when you think about how much you could possibly gain from some other AP’s.

Invega I found to be really good. I took it in the morning. It made me a little drowsy when I first started taking it but that wore off quickly. No other sleep troubles like the ones your having on Abilify.

I’m now moving over to Latuda. I am only on a small dose because I have only just started, just 40mg at the moment until Saturday. I haven’t had any side effects from it yet. I think it has the same side effect profile as invega, at least that’s what my psychiatrist said.

Also I’m on a diet at the moment and I am losing weight when I put my effort into the diet. So weight loss is possible on invega.
