I still get anxious every time I hallucinate a burning smell

I mean it forces me to check every power outlet in the house. I am kinda scared to go outside with it too

I can see how that would be frustrating, I’ve rarely had olfactory hallucinations. When I have, it’s been the smell of my great grandmothers body powder, comforting and calm, sweet rose scent, I know she’s with me when I smell that

What other things do you do other than check the outlets? And good ways to distract?

Edit: spelling

I once got this in the underground it was really scary! The underground guy at the barrier could not smell it

I just check the outlets. Am kinda stuck in an obsession that if I don’t check all the outlets a real fire will take place. Is really hard going

I dont think that is anxiety @anon94176359. It sounds more like paranoia.

I’ve been having fear that the house is on fire after the neighbors house burned down Saturday night. So very scary.

That’s what I thought but my doc said it was anxiety. My new doc doesn’t really know me that well yet though

I will admit when you posted about your neighbours fire it really upset me. Fire is such a terrifying thing.

Anxiety is more like ‘am I going to be good enough for this girl’ or ‘This is not going to go well’ but paranoia is when it gets a bit unrealistic.

Do you happen to have OCD features?

Yeah I do. Am on high dose fluoxetine for obsessional stuff

I could see the hallucinations triggering OCD pretty badly, specially when you’re scared for your safety.

Sorry dude, I wish I had some advice to help you

have you got a smoke alarm? you should have one, if you havent then you should get one as these things go off at the slightest hint of burning, very sensitive

If I had known this burning smell happened often, then I never would’ve told you to make sure nothing’s burning. Maybe only allow yourself to check everything once a week to start, as at the end of the day, you’re going to notice if something catches on fire.

if something was burning the alarm would go off, you dont need to check, if you are still bothered by it maybe ask a specialist to come over and check your electrics, your landlord may cover the cost.

No, if something was producing a large amount of smoke, then the alarm would go off. I accidentally lit a fire in the trash can (I thought a match was fully blown out but it wasn’t) and guess what? No alarm. Meanwhile the alarm in my room goes off when I turn on the heating fan. Honestly, this argument is kinda dumb because we all probably just have different alarms, lol.

My alarm is sensitive anyway, you can check your alarm by pressing the button on the alarm and it will go off for a few seconds and then stop, this will let you know that it is still working,

If you think your smoke alarm is not good enough then maybe you could ask for a better one or buy your own or something,

but if you are really anxious about electrical sockets then i dont see the harm in getting an electrician to come check them and put your mind at ease

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, I knew it was working because it went off every time my brother made food.

i wasnt really talking to you, no offense
