I prefer the sedating APs but they make me gain weight

Favourites have been olanzapine and quetiapine. Third is probably chlorpromazine. But I am a Michelin man now.

Anyone got any suggestions for a sedating, non weight gaining AP?

Ps does Prozac (fluoxetine) make you gain weight?

Olanzapine and quetiapine have been my favourites too. I don’t know about sedating ones that don’t cause weight gain, or at least not that I’ve tried. let me know if you find one!

Sertraline didn’t make me gain any weight I don’t think, maybe even lost some (though that’s probably cause it made me manic). So maybe fluoxetine wouldn’t either. Have you tried any SSRIs before?

Prozac can make you gain weight.

Oh have been on fluoxetine for years. But at the same time as quetiapine so I don’t know if it has made me gain weight too.

Meds I’m on:

600mg quetiapine
60mg fluoxetine
200mg pregabalin

I am keen to maybe try coming off the pregabalin for that is a weight gainer for sure.

Yeah I’m up to 600mg pregabalin just fairly recently, pretty sure it’s increasing my appetite too.

I think I read some people lose weight with SNRIs like duloxetine, have you tried that/them at all? I’m considering trying it myself atm

Thing is I have no mood problems. Am on the AD for anxiety and obsessionality. My obsessionality was never that bad. My anxiety is bad but IMO the fluoxetine never helped that.

In 3 years time I would like to see myself on only an AP and nothing else (or certainly at least try to achieve this).

I think duloxetine is used for anxiety too. At least that’s what I was offered it for

You’re off the depot of the other AP now then?

Yeah am off that. No increased paranoia but increased anxiety. Will have to see how I get on.

Does the 600mg pregabalin work because that is one option I was considering for anxiety? I read 600mg is the therapeutic dose for anxiety?

I’m told 600mg per day is max dose, by the dr. To be honest it’s not helping me much really

Yeah I think it is a third line med for anxiety after benzo and AD. Sucks. Man I wish benzo weren’t habit forming because they really help.

i like my rescue remedy when i feel anxious now, it takes the edge off and relaxes me

Yeah that would be good. Although some people have told me pregabalin can be addictive too, I don’t know though one way or the other

It annoys me, because I was fine with diazepam or clonazepam, never needing to increase the dose after a long time on benzos. Worked well, little to no side effects for me, but they decided to take me of it anyway

Yeah docs hate prescribing benzo these days. I think they are worried you will sue if you get hooked. Well maybe not… I don’t know but there are loads of docs that flat out refuse to prescribe them.

My friend got addicted to them and then they stopped giving him them so he turned to drink, luckily he has been sober for over a year now i think

I was on pregabalin as well but i stopped it, wasnt addicted but i got weight gain and then withdrawals,

my anxiety has improved a bit though bc of what i have been doing, i have been helping out at the clubhouse and this has extended the amount of time i can cope, i use to get really anxious very quickly but now its not as quick, i am able to do some washing up, i coped with cleaning my mums garden pretty good, and i have rescue remedy if i am feeling uptight/anxious, i seem to be making some progress anyway just slowly lol.

Did your doctor wean you off the pregabalin or did you go cold turkey? I am keen to get off it?

i think i just stopped taking it lol, probably not advisable

Ok. I take your advice onboard.

How is your lettuce doing?!

SSRI’s like Prozac aren’t strongly associated with weight gain to my knowledge, depends on the person. They’re popularly prescribed due to their minimal side effects.

The only med I can think of that is sedating and is not associated with weight gain is geodon. I actually lost weight on that med as it took away my appetite. Made sticking to a diet super easy.

Unfortunately geodon isn’t available in the U.K. :weary:

My doctor did suggest latuda but I don’t think that is sedating.
