For those with bipolar - what mood stabilizer or AP

Helped you but did NOT cause weight gain?

My friend has bipolar and is trying to find something that doesn’t cause weight gain. She’s allergic to Lamictal

I think it’s trial and error for everyone. I’m on 300mg of quetiapine and have lost my appetite. I’ve been losing sometimes a pound a day. I am also working with a V.A. nutritionist who is helping me develop strategies for potential AP side effects.

I’m on 100mg of Seroquel (Quetiapine), 10mg of Viibryd (Vilazodone), and just started on 5mg of Abilify (Aripiprazole). I’m also on Topamax (Topiramate) to help with the dream spikes caused by Seroquel.

Never had any weight gain problems and this cocktail seems to really work for me.

The question is about what helped for the manic phase and what helped for the depressive phase.
I’d say that geodon worsened my manic phase a lot while keeping me from ever getting depression.
And Clopixol really works well as an antimanicom but can drag you down to a depressive state of mind. The Seroquel I take is balancing.my mood so that I nevet get high or low but always neutral. I could imaginr that Seroquel or Lithium would do a decent job.

The clozapine I take works kind of like both an AP and a mood stabilizer, but it does make you want to eat constantly and sleep all the time. It’s hard to get moving in the mornings.

I have not been very manic for a long time. I don’t react well to mood stabilizers.

Zma girl Seroquel has made me pack 30 pounds on the last 12 years. A good meds but the side effects sucks.

Yeah. When I was on Seroquel I gained 90 pounds in 1 year! I refuse to take that drug and don’t want to recommend it to my friend

White raven not only is Clozapine the best drug for hard to treat psychosis.
But its also a very good meds for hard to treat moodswings.
All meds has their own set of side effects so take it or leave it.
