I want to take one but I’m sure I’m below average. It depresses me. I hear iq tests are definitive of someone’s intelligence yet some scientists say otherwise. What do you think? Should I try? Should I trust iq tests?
I had to do IQ tests in elementary and middle school to get into the Gifted and Talented program but that was before getting sick mentally. I think the illness has robbed me of some IQ points, but I don’t know. Don’t feel pressured to take a test if you don’t have to, cuz they don’t figure in things that come with mental illness, like easy distraction and difficulty completing tasks. Your IQ does NOT define you!
Would you consider me intelligent? I just don’t know how to view myself.
I think IQ tests are a poor predictor of success. Someone should do a study of the relationship of IQ to material wealth in the U.S. I think there are a number of people who are not that intelligent, but who watch very carefully the different kinds of values that promote personal wealth. They tend to lead very comfortable lives. I’ve also come across brilliant college professors who had a very hard time dealing with anything outside their area of expertise.
It may not predict success, but what about intelligence?
There are different kinds of intelligence, and they differ among different kinds of people. Someone might be a brilliant musician and not very good for much else. It would be highly disputed how intelligent some rock stars are. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin were considered brilliant musicians in the 60’s, but they all died young from overdoses on drugs, and a lot of the Greatest Generation members probably viewed those musicians as ridiculous at best. … Mohamed Ali’s IQ score was 77, I think. There was this other boxer named Bobby Cyxz who had an IQ of 140. But Ali was so much smarter a boxer than Bobby Cyxz. I also have to question the wisdom of a man with an IQ of 140 choosing to box. The whole concept of intelligence is very multifaceted. Find what you like doing and express yourself like that.
It took me until I was 25 before I could spell IQ correctly.
One thing I would like to say about Ali was that he was principled in his refusal to go to the Vietnam War. He could have gone along with the program and spent about a year of doing boxing exhibitions for the troops, but he saw what a shitshow Vietnam had become, and he refused to condone it. He spent three years in jail because of his stand against the war, right when he was at the very peak of his abilities. He saw what a shitshow the Vietnam War had become before many of us did. I guess that is a sign of intelligence.
He was never in jail; he was stripped of his title and not allowed to fight for three years.
He still suffered severe consequences because of his principled stand, maybe not a severe as jail, but still bad. He was prevented from boxing right at the peak of his abilities.
Isn’t that what I said?
You didn’t say that he was punished because of a principled stand. That is a key issue in what I posted.
There’s a big difference in going to jail for three years and not going to jail at all.
I know. You don’t need to remind me.
But it is still severe punishment for a professional athlete to be denied competition right at the peak of their abilities.
You sound pretty intelligent and creative. Think you have both.
I kind of want to do a proper one at a psychologist one day. Just for curiosity sake
An Ali that wasn’t ring rusty would’ve wiped the floor with Joe Frazier.
Different tests will give you different results as far as im aware. I wouldnt waste money on something thats got no function
They fought three times, and I think it was a good fight every time. Ali won twice, and Joe Frazier won once.
