I saw my pdoc today; I told her I’m in the process of quitting my meds. She said I can quit everything, except Clozaril.
In fact, if I so much as dare to do it, I’ll be promptly hospitalized (she also mentions I’ve been hospitalized before as a reason not to quit).
I mean I’m off almost two meds and I still feel okay…
Clozapine is a dangerous one to quit alone, as far as I know. The withdrawal can be very dangerous if it’s not supervised.
dont do it. u will lose your mind !!!
I quit Seroquel haldol etc… just keep your pdoc up to date let him know.
My family is pushing me to quit but my pdoc is fighting back saying she won’t allow it and I’m basically stuck between them >_>
Are your family members trained medical personnel? Because your pdoc most likely is. I would listen to what he says concerning the meds over what your family members think about it. Are you having problems with the meds?
Clozaril is incredibly difficult to quit. I’m sure your doc knows that better than your family. Maybe consider having them go in to an appointment and talk with your doc and see why they’re pushing you. Even if you are on several meds the doc wants to quit you need to give yourself time to adjust.
I would listen to your doctor @wayward.
If you suffer with any kind of positive symptom then you need to be on an antipsychotic.
I know it’s tough, no one likes to be on a powerful drug indefinitely but sometimes it’s necessary.
you have sz you need to take something for it, listen to your dr.
my p’doc has been listening to my reports for a couple of years now and he read good reports in my notes going back a few more years which prompted him to re-diagnose me, i may have also asked him to re-diagnose me but not sure,
all i’m trying to say is that even with a history of good mental health going back 6 years and a subsequent re-diagnosis, i am still taking my meds bc i know how easy it is to fall back down the rabbit hole.
the only way i’d try and stop meds is if my p/doc said it was ok and it was well monitored.
Why are you quitting? Because you feel well? It is likely that you feel well because of the medication.
Maybe your doc can explain it to your family.
I quit clozapine under my pdocs supervision, but they uped my Invega at the same time. Now on 12mg, but want to go to 9. However, my pdoc is reticent.
I have to take injections of abilify. I am court ordered for 5 years now. This cannot be my life now.
You can do whatever you want, like changing your pdoc. My pdoc think it’s plausible to quit medications, but, unfortunately, there are many dinosaur pdocs around the world. They’re majority and I find it hard for things to change.
