Geodon and Seroquel have been great med’s for me. They handle my symptoms with few side effects. Zyprexa made me mildly depressed. It also gave me a wicked craving for sugar. I think they were putting a lot of the people on Zyprexa at this state run mental health facility I was at in Tennessee, because every day at breakfast everyone would be going, “Gimme’ da’ sugar.” That craving for sugar was almost irresistible for me.
I’m stable like you and really don’t want to upset the apple cart. I’ve been on Geodon for 20 years and have been stable nearly 15 years. My pdoc wants me to switch to Latuda which has less of an effect on the heart, unlike Geodon. I also take Lexapro with Geodon and supposedly this combination is a really bad combination concerning the heart.
But my pdoc did say that if I wanted to continue with this combination of meds then I would just need to see my cardiologist regularly and that the cardiologist would have to write a note in my medical chart stating that my heart is still okay to continue taking Geodon.
Yip always a challenge making decisions around changing meds.
I’ve gained weight this holiday season so changing meds seems to be an answer in that regard. But most importantly don’t want to mess with mental stability
So I see pdoc on 19 Jan. Will chat to him but I’m prob going to stay on my current meds and start my sugar-free diet
I’ve had myocarditis for years so I am worried about my heart with Geodon
Yeah, Geodon really doesn’t have a good heart profile so I’m really surprised pdocs are still prescribing it to patients.
@cybermember so I’ve decided not to switch. Supposed to see pdoc on Friday but cancelled my appointment.
I’m staying on Zyprexa. For some reason my appetite is low so I’m not eating as much and I’m losing weight!
Thanks for all your feedback. Really appreciate the support and different views
