We all respond differently to different medicines. Your mood swings may be due to higher anxiety which Invega can cause or it may be something else. I didn’t have to take anxiety pills until I took Invega. On the other hand the anxiety probably existed beforehand as I had other signs of anxiety then. I noticed mild mood swings when I first took Invega which I never noticed before with Risperdal. Those worsened with Latuda and I had to be hospitalized for them. I also noticed when I first went on Invega that chocolate and antidepressants were causing anger spells. (I often was angry before so it may have been going on the entire time.) I can’t 100% pinpoint the root of the mood swings because I have had a lot of med changes over time but I no longer have them now since I have switched back to the Invega and added tranxene to the mix for anxiety and trileptal to keep the antidepressants I am finally compliant with from making me angry. Different doctors will define mood swings with schizophrenia as schizoaffective disorder or schizophrenia with anxiety and I guess it could be either. All I know and care about is that things are working now. for me.
