I heard Dave Ramsey is good. Some people swear by it. When I was forced to drop out of college, they made me pay back my grants and I had to pay loans back, which eventually got discharged. I did everything the right way. No remorse or regrets. I don’t like loans. I will never play in the stock market again. College is overrated. People feel the need to go and feel entitled.
hmm, in the late 80’s, I couldn’t get a student loan because my dad was making too much money.
My how times have changed.
I would brainstorm ways to pay for some of it these days.
A few years ago I heard even the G.I. Bill was being changed.
I had public loans, not private. But I get what you are saying. I had little help from family. The funny thing is I told my mom at one point I was going to drop out and join the army or join rotc, but at the last moment, my step father gave me some money. I appreciated him for that. It was nice. Maybe my life would have been different or better. But I might have alien DNA so it wouldn’t have worked out anyway.
I believe we live in a sim so I cannot change my past at all. Like a loop.
My dad is middle class. My step dad is poor because of his own stupidity and sin. He is behind on his taxes constantly and doesn’t give a ■■■■ about Fafsa for my brother. Luckily, I was able to use Fafsa. Turned out it was a mistake to go to Berkeley. A bunch of community College students pressured me. It was good. I only looked at the prestigiousness, not the political atmosphere. I was naive and stupid and lost. If I realized this, I would have gone to ucla.
They had the big wall street protests while I was there. I hated it. I lived in a hippie environment to save money and to get out of my shell.
I initially wanted to do business or engineering. Something along those lines.
My dad never got military benefits really. He was in the navy for 8 years.
It cost too much to travel from southern California to northern plus shipping expenses.
When I was in high school, I wanted to join the military, but changed my mind. I was attracted to marines and possibly air force. My dad was tough on me. My brother in law said army was better. He was there. He’s a good guy.
The funny thing is I was looking into nuclear engineering at one point in my life, but my grades sucked. I was struggling. Ocs or something. Never happened. Its a pipe dream. Would have been amazing.
I think this is the best possible life I’ve ever had despite the illness.
Sorry for the rant.
I’m just a guy ■■■■■■■■ about his life and past dreams.
It might be a good idea to talk to a financial adviser if you are struggling with debt, i think there are various charities that may be able to offer help, and there are other places you can call if you are needing to talk about it like the samaritans who will listen to your concerns.
Ooooh boy. And you’re looking at nursing? I’m not sure that’s going to be a good fit as the job is all other people with stress and anxiety.
I don’t think it would be the same as working for a bunch of backstabbers and narcissists
The way nursing staff is run, it would be pretty similar. The managers are always trying to push the limits of what is a safe nurse to patient ratio, and they really pressure people to take overtime and not take sick/vacation days. Plus, being a nurse right now is akin to serving the front lines of a war.
Seems like a non-starter
Nurses are quitting left and right at the moment. Many of them are showing signs of PTSD from serving during the pandemic.
@Joker, You overestimate nursing colleagues. I worked as an RN for many years.
What do you mean about overestimate?
I’m really sorry that you’re going through this. I hope things open up and you can find a new job before your savings run out. Until then try to cut costs and spread out your money as best you can. Maybe you can get an extra month out of it if you really cut corners.
Did you apply for universal credit online…? I know it is not a lot but it is something coming in … you can apply for jsa as well… Sorry if you already have done this… i am just trying to think what other help you can get… if you are not fit for work you can declare that when applying for universal credit…i think that means you will get more…
unfortunately i cannot go into work at the moment because of the situation at home… and since i am zero hours i won’t get paid so i had no option but to go on universal credit.
I’ve yet to have a career without those, although I’ll say that my current managers are some of the best I’ve ever had. And in insurance - who knew!
Managers aside, how would you handle losing a young child on your shift? It would destroy me, no way I could do it.
Not trying to crush you, but if you have a hard time with stressful working conditions… Y’know?
I applied for universal credit. Not too sure how it works though
Have you considered getting a bank loan to sell your house? That would be my priority if I were you. You can always go on benefits until you figure something out but I would try make sure that you don’t end up losing out on a lot of money.
This is true. I read the course content and they do train you to cope with these types of things.
I want to help but it seems that I am not going to be able to work in this field.
It’s a shame as I got shortlisted
I could do something like that but I will do everything I can to keep my flat.
The problem for me is that I’m partially disabled. The system here seems to want folks who either are or are not disabled.
Not saying you shouldn’t, just trying to give you fair warning?
I didn’t think I’d do well in insurance, but I turn out to be good at it despite dealing with cranky customers.
