I have a posh sounding accent (Nottingham)

When I’m abroad and meet other British people I get told I sound posh. Nottingham is in the East Midlands. I tone down my accent a bit. Is your accent posh?

Really? I tend to think of RP from southern England to be much classier sounding.

Soooo many Americans say that.

It really is!

I don’t have a RP accent. I have a regional accent but pronounce my words correctly. I went to speech and language therapy as a child as I have a lisp.

RP is posh to Canadians.

Even an older Australian couple we met in Rome said I have a more clearer accent then my friend I was with and we are both from the same town.

Literally everyone has an accent compared to others who are from different regions. It’s so funny to me when some of my fellow Americans say they have no accent. They do. It’s the one that is from their own hometown. That’s said, I have a Midwest American accent

i really meant s compared to my region. they’ll say you have none.

I think I have a Midwestern accent. Although, an old friend from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said I had a strong northern accent when we first talked.

In The UK they think I’m American. In NY they thought I was Canadian. Opinions differ.
