Today are the Iowa caucuses in my state. This event kicks off the primaries in all the other states to follow over like 5 or 6 months I think.
I don’t want anyone to make personal political comments because that would be against the rules, but I thought this was a significant enough event to bring up here.
Obviously, Biden is going to be the nominee on the Democrat side in the end. In Iowa, its almost certain Trump will have the lead at the end of the Iowa Caucuses. What is slightly more interesting is who is going to be in second place and who may have momentum going into the other states primaries.
Ron Desantis was leading for second for some time but it appears, if polls are correct, that Nikki Haley has gained significant momentum and may have taken over second place.
I’m not hugely into this, but I am interested enough to see how this may shape the election later this year.
Complicating everything is that there is a very cold, windy winter storm here at the moment which may affect turnout.
The final Iowa poll before caucuses has Trump 48%, Haley 20% and Desantis 16% :
The fact that trump is the frontrunner really isnt that interesting, I dont think. What has potential interest, IMO is the potential to propel a rival into competition with trump throughout the rest of the primary process. I think Trumps current court battles makes this even more likely to be an important factor in the future.
Please remember when commenting on this thread that no politics are allowed. A more accurate statement is that political opinions/leanings are not allowed. I think facts, like those I have stated are ok.
I’m taking a risk on this thread because I realize it may be difficult for some to control expressing their political leanings and I may have to close. Stating facts I think is ok. So please try to do so.
