How do you get a dog on a trial basis?

Congratulations, any photos?
My Father and brother want us to get a dog but I’m not quite ready for the added responsibility right now.

I once went to a zoo with only one animal: a dog.

It was a Shitzu.

@daydreamer if you decide to bathe your dog at home, make sure to buy a hair dryer and thoroughly dry every part of him. Shitzu fur gets extremely matted when it air dries. This is also important for rainy walks. Mats are extremely painful for dogs, and can’t be combed away. The only thing to do if you find a mat is to cut it out.

@Ninjastar is right. I blow dry my Shih Tsu after his baths and he still manages to get little matts in his fur that the groomer has to cut away. We get him groomed every three months and we get him a short puppy cut

I just get mine groomed once a month and don’t bathe him on my own outside that. I do brush him once a day. But do NOT try to brush through mats.

I don’t try to brush through mats either. But my dog hates to be brushed. I’ve gotten him used to this glove brush, but that’s the best I can do for him since he won’t let me use a regular brush.

finding it hard to sleep but the dog is fine, i put him in my hall on a little bed thing and he went on it straight away, in the morning i will feed him and walk him and hopefully he is ok with other dogs, my area has lots of people with dogs so i need to be careful,

I’m thinking about either getting a doggy shampoo and bathing him myself (i have a hair drier) or take him to get groomed, not sure if they wash him there.

btw do you know if i can let his hair grow or does it have to be kept short?

It needs to be kept short so it won’t mat.

If you take proper care of it, you can grow out the hair on the tail and ears, but everything else needs to be short. If you let it grow too long, he will have trouble eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom.

That’s not a lot. Feeding a pet super cheap food guarantees larger vet bills down the road. Speaking of that, hoping you’re setting up a savings account and putting in money each month for doggie health care.

No joke.

My dog ate baker’s chocolate last year and it cost $600 in vet bills.

When you go to get him groomed, make sure to go to a nice place too. I went to a cheap place once and my dog was so traumatized it took almost a year before he stopped having panic attacks in the car. That was because my usual groomer raised rates from $45 to $55 and I thought I could get a better deal elsewhere. The clippers can cause a rash if you don’t have someone skilled. That’s also why you shouldn’t try doing it yourself.
