Basically my support staff forgot to remind me and I had a couple of holidays, I’m 4 weeks lates having my depot injection and feel fine with no illness? Is this unusual? My nurse said its because I’ve had the 2 holidays to focus on and that I was well in the month with no negatives and it’s best not to miss the injection tomorrow… Do you think me maintaining wellness for a month means I’m actually okay and don’t need the injection?
That’s a hard call. You never know when symptoms are going to start, how intense they will be, or how long they will last.
How long have you been stable?
I haven’t been that stable in the past. I got recalled back to hospital (I’m on a hospital order) in Nov 2018… Been okay since then… Never really missed a dose for more then 2 weeks since 2011… Never missed it for the month before, Had holidays and things to look forward too… things have been calm… no stresses… No alcohol… My thoughts have been a little intrusive, sleep hasn’t been great, no paranoia. etc
Are you perhaps on invega sustenna? That one takes longer to wear off, around 25-50 days to reduce its concentration in your body by half. So if you’re taking that injection, its effects most likely can still be felt
I wouldn’t risk it, you’re fine now, but what if something happens and you have to go back to the hospital? Most likely if you have another psychotic break you’ll have to take a bigger med dose after you get out
I agree with @AccreditedPsych if it’s invega (paliperidone) it takes longer to get our your system. It has a week leeway (my psychiatrist said). I’ve gone for mine one week late before and I had no symptoms. You could probably even go longer.
I’d take the advice of your social worker. She knows you better than us.
I’ve been off of antipsychotics completely for 8 months now, and didnt really have any realky troublesome symptoms up until a few days ago.
One time I went 2 years without antipsychotics before I crashed and burned and ended up hospitalized again. No way to know how long before a relapse will occur.
I am on Invega…
I have symptoms like a couple of days before my injection is due …ur lucky u can be without ur injection for that long
I think the injection is a placebo and they are tricking me, and I’m NOT paranoid. Once you’ve been labelled paranoid they don’t listen to your concerns, i.e like the depot nurse today while I was telling him I think its a placebo, he looked like he was thinking ‘’‘paranoid’’…
When I quit getting my depot shot of Prolixin it took about six months before it hit me, but when it did it was dramatic.
Can I ask… I forgot depot for one month… I had it today… Will I become symptomatic even after the dose today?
You should be alright, but it is possible that the lower dose in your system could still affect you. Just be careful and be aware of how you’re feeling and reacting to things.
