I live in the state with the #1 healthcare system in America (according to my buddy). The catch 22 is that people with schizophrenia usually can’t afford to live here because it’s quite expensive to live here and increasingly so by a lot each year.
Obviously I couldn’t afford to live here on my own. We also have the lowest rate of szs in America of any state (According to statistics from a few years ago). So Despite having the best healthcare we have the lowest rate of people who need it, for psychosis at least.
So therefore, I am very lucky I can live here.
Hearing about some of your guys shitty therapists and troubles with psychiatrists. I’m grateful that we have such an array of supports they offer here. Just gotta pay a bunch to live here in order to get those services…
What’s the healthcare like where you live? I live in Connecticut USA btw.
From what I’ve experienced, RI has pretty decent healthcare. I have a caring doctor, great therapist, a pdoc/nurse/case manager team, and the psych hospital here has a good CBT partial program as well as decent accommodations in case of overnights. Lucky to live in New England.
That’s true. I have a real good pdoc though. I have to give him all the credit for my most miraculous med naltrexone. And even though I suggested abilify and Zoloft, he wrote the script!! A lot of pdocs dont consider naltrexone or know about it. Glad mine does.
Without getting too political. Can someone explain why Texas economy is so good. But their healthcare is 37th. While Connecticut’s economy is so bad, yet #3 in the nation in healthcare
I just would think Texas would use some of that oil and gas money to help pay for better healthcare. I don’t understand economics nor politics much at all. And this is kind of in both areas. All I know is Connecticut keeps raising taxes and maybe puts that money into healthcare. But the state suffers a lot economically it’s a disaster. While Texas has an entirely different mentality in a lot of ways.
I live in New York and we seem to have good coverage. I’m not totally covered, because Medicaid is now handled by insurance companies and they deny a lot of treatments and meds, but it is better than what I had before Medicaid expansion - nothing! We still have copays, but luckily I can get my meds and see doctors for good basic care.
I’m in Portugal where healthcare is almost free but the average income is $12k. The government is a huge bureaucracy and productivity levels are in the gutter. The business environment is unfriendly and there are strikes many times a year. Conditions are generally good and they have a private healthcare system for those that want to pay a little more. They also have no defense spending
I just don’t get it…we have the highest rate of people leaving the state in the country for the past ten years. I didn’t vote in the past election and I tend to be liberal but we voted in the guy who wants to keep on raising and raising taxes. We need major economic reform. That doesn’t start with tolls, legal marijuana, higher taxes on gas cigarettes and alcohol. Or maybe it does what do I know
