I feel like a loser

I’m 24 and everyone I went to high school with is out of college and working. I’m in my junior year and can barely focus on my classes. I also live with my parents and I don’t even have a drivers license or a car…

I can relate. I felt a similar way in my early to mid twenties. I’ve just come to accept that I won’t be successful in life.

My advice is that you keep at it. Even if you don’t end up earning a 100k salary, you can still feel an accomplishment if you finish school. I know a dude that didn’t graduate until he was in his 30’s. Don’t give up and try not to be so hard on yourself. Schizophrenia is not the life we chose but you’re still doing something productive by continuing your education.

Try not to feel bad and don’t beat yourself up, it accomplishes nothing. I had to drop out of University because I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I’m 43, I live with my parents. I don’t have any friends or a girlfriend. My personal income is below the poverty line. Like @schizophrenisaurus I’ve just come to accept I won’t be successful in life. But I’ve learned to be somewhat happy and am just living my life.

There’s a reason that they call it a disability. Things are harder for people who have it. Why not talk to the University Disability Liaison and see what accommodations you can get to make things easier for you at school?

I get accommodations extended time on tests and I get notes from someone else in the class. My doctor said I could go up to 200mg modafinil so maybe I’ll do that and hopefully it will help with my focus.

I hope the modafinil helps. It’s ok that it’s taking you longer. Don’t compare yourself to others. You have an organic brain disorder that changes things a lot. Just do the best you can.

I lived with my parents until I was 40. I then moved into an assisted living center for the mentally ill. When I lived with my parents I felt like a giant loser, but then I realized no one really cared about my personal situation. Just keep that information to yourself. Tell white lies if you have to. The sooner you forgive yourself for your circumstances the sooner you won’t have to worry about what others think.

in other words be happy with yourself.accept yourself.and be content fulfilled.as they say in the old book “indeed with hardship there is relief”.

I think those aphorisms come from the workers and laborers of this world, and they’re most heeded by the middle class. Someone whose hands are rubbed raw from overwork knows that much of the time those aphorisms offer little real relief, and someone who is independently wealthy often doesn’t have time for such sayings.

I wasn’t taking offence. I was just philosophizing. You could probably shoot down my arguments if you wanted.

İ was kind a lucky about relationship but i just didn t want to hanging up with someone.i conciously want to be alone in my twenties.but that was huge mistake.

Been there. Spent 3 years out of commission before finally finishing med school. If you could work along with schooling, that would help. Also, I cannot overemphasize the benefits of saving money.

You’re a doctor? That’s impressive I’m having a lot of trouble concentrating on my classes.

I also feel like a loser sometimes because I never learned how to date or hold down a job. I’ve done both but never with what I consider to be success. I think it is due to my extreme shyness. My advice is to figure out a way to read about and tackle social skills issues if you have them because it doesn’t just go away on its own. You have to grow a healthy self interest enough to take care of yourself as someone you want to see succeed no matter what. I hope this helps someone. Remember you’re not alone in this struggle.

LOTS of people live with their parents. i mean ALOT. due to the economy
you’re not a loser, you’re still working at your goals

I don’t know how your educational system works but in my case, I benefited from concentrating on particular areas needed to pass the exams. Also, reading with others in the same line of study helps, because I find that some symptoms are relieved by having such people around. I don’t hear many voices around when I do that.
