I can't focus on what people are saying. sometimes it just sounds like gibberish

I’m having lots of problems speaking and with language in general. I use to be very well spoken and articulate… is this a normal problem with schizophrenia?

I have the same problem
For me it’s the psych meds.

I’m sure of it.

I agree with @Wave . I have this too and I think it’s from my AP.

Only when i’m having an episode. Two weeks ago i had a severe depressive episode. I went to the psych emergency, the nurses asked what I wanted. I couldn’t tell, I couldn’t say anything, I just handed over my identity card, and they put me in a closed ward for a couple of days.

When im not having an episode i can still find it difficult to find the words.

I don’t usually experience problems with interpreting language, either reading or listening.

You might have what they call disorganised schizophrenia (jumbled thoughts and speech)

I have had that during prodromal sz but never after, even when off meds. Which makes me think my sz improved.

I get that. I just see lips moving and I have canned responses like “oh ya? , uh huh, yes, yeah for sure, definitely.”

I used to have quite a bit of trouble listening but I’ve worked hard at paying attention to people’s dialog. It’s tiring.

Yes it is one of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. I oftencant concentrate on what someone is saying, or my voices distract me. Then i stumble over my words when trying to reply. I try to keep conversations on text or email as i hate talking on the phone for this reason. I have to concentrate really hard when in person.

I also have this, in my case it is the cognitive and negative symptoms that make me have these symptoms, there is also difficulty speaking
