I can't find a place to live, What should I do? How do I get more money if I am unable to work?

I have moved 4 times in the past year, and I am tired of moving around. I don’t know what to do. I get 733 dollars per month but I can’t find a stable healthy and safe place to live on this budget. I am starting to panic. I don’t think I can survive much longer. Praying has not helped and I don’t want to ask people for help because I will get more depressed. I am desperate. Life is too painful to manage. How do I get more money or manage life on this budget?

I heard a presentation last weekend. Go to your county mental health office and request help. Ours is located in the county administration building with the tax assessor.

And also try the community mental health center. Our community mental health center sponsors apartments on a sliding scale. Many Medicaid recipients live in their subsidized housing. My church provides housing for men with mental illnesses through the community mental health centers housing organization.

I have applied for subsidized but they said it would take at least 2 years, I won’t make it that long. I lived in a house for mentally ill people that is too stressful i would rather die. Maybe I should move someplace that offers more help, I am in richmond VA. I asked the community mental health center for help before, they don’t help with housing.

My county mental health department said that they help people find housing. They said here anyway, won’t allow Sz in the homeless shelter, I doubt that’s true. I thought homeless people often had schizophrenia.

In a more liberal state, you could get more from welfare. I know in Virginia they only give you six months worth of benefits unless you can find a full time job in that time.

Here’s our crisis line phone number, it’s for my area, but maybe they have a listing or contact for your area ?

What?

We have hud and dhs

Don’t involve a crisis team

@Daze, it’s not a crisis team, it’s a phone number to call and find help if you have a mental health related problem. A crisis team is different from the crisis line phone number.

How will a crisis line help me get more money or more stable housing? i think they just serve to prevent people from hurting someone.

I need 1,000 dollars a month. What state is that?

SSDI doesn’t give money based on which state you live in. It’s how much you worked prior to falling ill, and how much you made them. I think it takes an average of your two highest-paying years of work. If you fell ill early on in life, you wouldn’t get as much.

You could try calling the social security ticket to work program tomorrow. They have a vocational rehab person who is to help find severely disabled people find a job. They have contacts at the Goodwill Store for example, if you worked there, you’d be compensated more than $700 a month I’m guessing.

Idk how to increase it I’ve worked all my life til right now

I got ill in college with no recorded work history, so just ssi 735 dollars. But i am hoping there is more benefits grants opportunities.

If your on SSI, then you have a documented disability. With a documented disability, you can get discounts from utility companies. But you have to apply to each one for the discounts.
