I had some paintings I was trying to sell, and I called an art gallery up and asked what they were worth. The guy said that those paintings were the only paintings that artist published, and because of that they would never be worth more than about $25.00 a piece. I said, “Oh, it sounds like this guy had enough sense to paint only as a hobby, and not to try to earn his living that way.” He said, “Uh, that’s how I earn my living.” I didn’t know what to say. Then he said, “Aw, don’t worry about it. I know how hard it is for an artist to earn a living.” I was relieved, but I’m still embarrassed about that.
