I can’t afford my

Daughters vegan foods she eats. I asked her to go on food stamps but she refuses even though she can’t find a job. I know her dad can afford her food, but asking her to go live with him would kill me. I’m out of savings. The only reason we’ve been able to buy food lately is because my husband inherited $10,000. I love my daughter and love having her here.

She has to learn how people need to manage money, give her a deadline to get food stamps, and explain there is just not enough money to continue past that date.

I agree with @Mountainman she needs to learn

Vegan food is very expensive. She needs to find a way to pay for it herself, in all kindness. My sister in law is a vegan but she understands it is expensive and buys it herself. I appreciate that very much.

Being vegan or doing other diets are not essential things in life, I see them as luxury.

I used to eat outside many times everyday when I was working full time. Now since I don’t work I just eat outside once every month.

How much does a vegan meal cost? If she buys veggies for the week it can’t be too expensive? Spinach, lentils, beans, tomatoes, etc. And then rice, cous cous and pasta for carbs.

My sister is vegan and I spend more money on food than her as a meat eater.

My daughter wants all the prepackaged vegan meals. She doesn’t make herself meals. I already cook meals and don’t want to have to cook double to be honest @Helicon-6

It’s probably 4 to 5 times the cost of a conventional diet when you factor in the amount of fresh produce needed, the spoilage, and the specialty products that a pure vegan needs to make up the proteins they’d get in a normal diet (e.g. animal free cheeses or milk replacements).

Ooooof. That’s more than 4 or 5 times as expensive. My condolences, you apparently gave birth to the spiritual successor to Morris the Cat.

Plus, my daughter is trying to gain weight and is eating 4,000 calories per day

Let her go hungry, I work hard for my age and have to go without often cause of Covid and they are shutting things down once again, the reality of life is if you can’t afford it, you most likely can not have it.

I would like a nicer diet as well, but I have to go to the discount store and eat whatever is on sale and from there to the dollar store and pick up anything that might be on sale

Make her live on beans and rice.

She’s my daughter and I love her. Just beans and rice isn’t healthy

Actually, beans and rice is very healthy in protein and takes the place of those expensive vegan meats.

You need minerals and vitamins, maybe if she takes a multivitamin and add healthy fat like olive oil with the rice and beans. But its a boring and depressive diet and I don’t think ppl can just eat beans and rice everyday forever. I can’t.

I didn’t mean she couldn’t embellish the beans and rice with tasty fruits and vegies that could still be in the budget.

Yes, but not if eaten solely

I have some cheap vegan dishes that are pretty quick to make, I could share the recipies if you like. The prepackaged vegan meals are full of garbage fillers and loads of sugar and salt. Beans and rice would honestly probably be healthier than that.

Canned Beans and rice. There’s a whole variety of beans all packed with minerals and protein. Then there’s fruit and a big ol bag of carrots or something like that for veggies. That stuff all has more nutritional value than those prepacked meals by far.

Plus it’s not forever she will hopefully get a job soon enough.

And some cheap sauces.

Or frozen peas n sweetcorn goes a long way.
