I believe that my neurologist has hit upon a

med combo that actually prevents my migraine headaches!!! After years and years of getting at least daily, severe migraines. I haven’t had one migraine in the last 2 and a half days. The one condition was to stay on all my psych meds, and I’m in the process of eliminating my Risperdal Consta shots.

Oh, what to do? What do I want more? To be able to play piano? Or to eliminate my migraines? That’s a very tough call.

I think I’m going to try to go off the Risperdal Consta shots. If the migraines return, I’ll go back on them.

Have you tried the Emgality injection for migraines? I was like you – I had them at least half the month or more, and at first I used botox, which was helpful to a degree. Then they came out with these once monthly injections, and they are a godsend!! Eliminates them. Maybe one slips though, but rarely. I’ve been taking the injection for years.

They’re expensive, but if your insurance covers them, the Pharma company makes a copay card to significantly reduce the cost. I only pay $25 per injection.

I get about 30 migraines per month if not more. My neurologist has me on a monthly injection called Aimovig. I’m also on a longacting daily pill called Inderal 80 mg which is doing wonders! @Pandy

Can you take a lower dose of Risperdal. I am not sure what to tell you.

Yes I can. My pdoc is slowly lowering my dosage by 12.5 mg per month. I can observe the effects on my piano playing, mood, and migraines and decrease or increase the dose accordingly.

If you have to choose between getting headaches or getting delusional…I would choose to get headaches. The reason why you might end up delusional and you might have to go to the hospital. I don’t understand what it is like to get a migraine headaches…but you have to figure out what the pros and cons are.

You’ve never had a migraine.
