I am not running a zoo

time for another bitch rant about the inlaws, today was a rough day for kay she had to give the rat a bath and then help me clean the rat cage which was nasty. we got lectured about the rat cage smelling so bad but the rat isn’t our pet but suddenly its our responsibility. we bought all the animals sometime today. but I don’t remember signing anything or agreeing to let the dog, cat, bird and rat over in our apartment. do you know how much torture it is for a cat to see a bird and a rat in its territory and know it cant have it

Yikes, you shouldn’t be held responsible for caring for animals you didn’t want or agree to get…

All of those animals need cage cleanings at least once a week. Maybe once every 2 weeks if they have a bigger cage. If you ever don’t think they’re receiving proper care please try to get your family to rehome them.

@cbbrown since you and Kay are paying rent, you should have the right to decide who may or may not enter your apartment. That includes your in-laws, your in laws’ kids and your in-laws’ pets.

@cbbrown On a funny note, I have a rat washing story.

Years ago, a roommate of mine (who was employed as a teacher’s aid) brought home the pet rat from her classroom because it had developed a skin condition. The vet prescribed a special medicated shampoo for the rat.

My roommate put on bright yellow rubber dishwashing gloves and chemistry goggles to avoid getting the stinky shampoo on her hands or in her eyes and then turned on the kitchen faucet. She carefully adjusted the water temperature to a comfortable level for the rat shower. Then she picked up the rat and gently held it under the running water.

The rat let out a loud squeak and jumped straight up in the air about 3 feet and my roommate shrieked and caught the flying angry wet rat mid air. I was laughing so hard because she looked like a mad scientist in her chem goggles and clutching the angry soggy rat. :rat: :shower:

Loooool. I’ve never given my rats a bath. They groom themselves like a million times a day anyways.

Rats have sharp teeth, I would never hold one under water much less scrub it against its will. Gloves? Nope, still wouldn’t do it.

TG didn’t freak out really just tried to get out of the sink not thrash against the person washing him.
