I am going to start Lamictal again tomorrow

Put off taking Lamictal since I got my new pdoc because I’m still not sure about how the interactions will go. I was on 200 mg of Lamictal before being taken off it, but will be splitting the pills in half so my system can get used to it. Is 100 mg a good starting dose? I don’t remember if she said she’d provide me with new Lamictal pills or not but my mom hasn’t received them from the pharmacy if so.

I wouldnt change the dose on my own. Does your Dr know?

She doesn’t. I’ll probably just skip the Lamictal tomorrow and call her in the morning and ask her where I need to start.

how was your cognition on 200mg of lamictal?

Lamictal is not one to mess with without pdoc approval. It can cause that rash that preceeds total organ failure.

100 mg is not a good starting dose.
Please don’t mess around with your meds.

Definitely talk with your doctor about proper dosing.

Lamictal is a tricky drug that needs slow and steady titration or you risk getting a potentially lethal rash.

It is recommended that LAMICTAL not be restarted in patients who discontinued due to rash associated with prior treatment with lamotrigine unless the potential benefits clearly outweigh the risks. If the decision is made to restart a patient who has discontinued LAMICTAL, the need to restart with the initial dosing recommendations should be assessed. The greater the interval of time since the previous dose, the greater consideration should be given to restarting with the initial dosing recommendations. If a patient has discontinued lamotrigine for a period of more than 5 half-lives, it is recommended that initial dosing recommendations and guidelines be followed. The half-life of lamotrigine is affected by other concomitant medications [see Clinical Pharmacology

Scroll way down past the warnings to see the table for recommended titration doses. It recommends starting with at minimum 25 mg every other day and at maximum 50 mg every day for at least 2 weeks. But there are loads of other factors that affect starting dose. Basically, wait for pdoc approval.

Thank you everyone for the responses, it was a stupid thing to try and do and I’m glad I haven’t taken it yet. Especially thank you @Ninjastar for the links on dosage information.

Update on the pdoc situation: I called her office and she wasn’t there because of their office hours, but they will be open again tomorrow morning and she should hopefully be there.

So glad we could help keep you safe! I hope your pdoc is able to talk to you tomorrow. If your symptoms get overwhelming in the meantime, the ER is always an option. But tomorrow is not far away.

Yeah, true. The Lamictal is just for some extra mood stabilization, I’m pretty sure, but I’m looking forward to being back on it because my DPDR has never felt better while I was on it.

I don’t remember exactly the reason, other than I likely wanted to be off Latuda and I also had to take Lamictal with it because it wouldn’t interact well with the new medicine.

Update on the situation: after some confusion, I talked to the medical assistant at the office and told her how long it’s been since I’ve taken Lamictal and she’s going to pass that on to my doctor since she probably wasn’t aware how long it’s been since I’ve taken it. Hopefully she’ll be able to change the dosage then.
