Hyperthyroidism linked to psychosis?

Anyone experience this and got treatment medication and got better? My thyroid been hyper for over a year now and thats when all my symptoms started!

There’s some theories about the endocrin system and schizophrenia, just old theories. You might want to get checked by a good psychiatrist

It’s a very small chance of that being the link but you can explore it anyway. Don’t get your hopes up and remember you might have to take medicine for the rest of your life and that’s OK, it’s for your own good.

I thought there was some cases… cant believe everything online i guess right

Hyperthyroidism can mimic psychosis. I’d talk to a dr about it.

There was a kid who after he got sick :mask: he started having symptoms of OCD. Once he took a course of antibiotics his symptoms cleared up. His mother wrote a book about it called Saving Sammy:

Hypothyroidism is also common.
Psych meds can trigger this.

I got tested for thyroid problems.

My understanding on it is if your thyroid goes back to normal the psychosis stops.

But I’m not a doctor, they would be best to talk to

Is it possible to be aware of your psychosis?

Full psychosis, I don’t believe so, when you lose full insight and the hallucinations become real. That’s when it gets dangerous.

Mild psychosis can still confuse you while it’s happening, but you gain insight back quickly.

Least that’s me

I’ve always had good insight into my psychosis.

Not sure of any link. But I ended up with the oppsite Hypothyroidism due to doing what the doctors said. Doctors said that people in general are consuming too much salt. So I stopped adding table salt to my foods. Then all hell broke loose, since I was no longer consuming iodized salt.

I ended up with Iodine Deficiency.
