I was lucky, at the age 45 there is a mandatory eye test for a driver’s license and an optician discovered I had high eye pressure levels and then I was sent to one university hospital for further tests, they have very sophisticated systems to discover how advanced glaucoma is, a eye doc said that I could not drive an auto for one week and then further tests were completed, I used to go to this university hospital regularly, but now I go to my local hospital (300 meters from my place) because they have the same equipment and systems. I have regular visits to the eye doc at the hospital. I was lucky that it was discovered then years ago, otherwise it would have just become worse. I do have some permanent damage in my eyes, must just wish it does not become worse which is why I have these two different eye drops I use daily.
Glaucoma is a quite ‘devilish’ eye illness, in the old times people just became blind, but nowadays there are many new treatments to lower the eye pressure such as a laser surgery that I had last year, the whole laser surgery might have taken just five minutes, together with this surgery and eye drops pressure in the eyes can be lowered quite well.
I’m sorry to hear you have gluacoma @mjseu. Is it interferring with your vision much currently?
Can it be treated with a surgery?
Glaucoma itself can not be treated with a surgery, but a laser surgery can be used to lower the eye pressures. I had this surgery, but it is all about lowering the eye pressure. These sophisticated systems to evaluate the extent and advancement of glaucoma show clearly where I have ‘blind spots’ in my eyes. Currently it does not interfer with my vision so much. It is under the control with my daily eye drops.
