How to get over fear of working

I have developed a preference for not working and now fear work.

Last time I lost a job it was because of stopping meds, time before that, I didn’t stop meds but I did over use modafinil. The other two jobs I’ve had since, I quit bc of anxiety or bc of bullying.

Do you think maybe I do have it in me to work, I’m just scared ?

I think you could have it in you to work.

I’d like to be able to work but I have too much social anxiety.

Fluoxetine controls my anxiety for the most part, and now a month later without cigarettes - it’s improved even more.

Im glad you’ve been honest and think I maybe able to hack it. I kinda need the pushes, little nudges to try to get myself back into a rhythm

Edit. My mindset. Idk how to change the voice in my head

Hang in there and put one foot in front of the other. Worst case scenario you leave work after you obtain a job.

Maybe just start with part time to ease your way into it

I believe you can.
No matter what job you have you need to bite the bullet the first couple of weeks until you get used to it.
It’s easier in time

That was a major barrier for me. More so than the schizoaffective.

Think health and safety as the workplace can be a dangerous environment.

I’m not really employable right now. Maybe some day.

So yes, I do have fears too.

Building trust with people you work for or with. Which has been challenging for me in the past

If you could find something you love to do that sounds like it would really help with fear and anxiety. Also if you have motivation for money to use it for something that you love that is good motivation to work. I’m sorry you’ve been bullied. I once had a manager who was really aggressive with me. He grabbed my crotch once. And then once when I was bending over to change the trash he told me never to bend over in front of him. He also did all kinds of sexual gestures with me and would grab my finger and do sexual gestures with it with his hand. Just things like that were just stuff that I just put out of my mind because I wanted money. Also with my voices I think I’m being telepathically bullied in someway but it’s not an issue anymore.

d00d. I would put money down on you being able to work and I would give odds. It’s not like flipping a switch though, you have to push back into doing it and there will be setbacks. Those are okay because you’re learning what you can and can’t do well so just accept the lessons and keep going. Setbacks are part of returning to work and you’re not a failure when they happen, it is part of the process. That’s all.

Motivating myself to become qualified is tough but I’m certain insurance underwriting is what i want to pursue. In terms of planning do you think it sensible to stay on benefits whilst i complete the Chartered Institute of Insurance Qualifications? As opposed to joining a workplace and tryna balance studies and work

Yes, I think this makes more sense.

If you were healthy and already in the workforce then the additional stress probably wouldn’t be so bad. If you have been out of work for a while then jumping into work AND intense work training at the same time is too big of a leap IMO.

I have fallen in and out of work

The job you have and conditions of employment can make or break you

Never regret making it into a routine

Helps to have other things to think about and new problems to solve

If you’re not working at the moment and getting by, I would take some courses

I left school with nothing and did an access to HE course that got me into uni

Was only a day and a half a week

That would be a slow paced approach that should help you in the longer run

But we are all different!

Yeah, that’s necessary to get into the industry. I’m on the broker side rather than the underwriting side. I have had some job offers from insurance companies and I’m considering going over to that side of the industry.
