How to define if I am ready for work

Hello to all of you!!

I want to ask which are the factors to define if you are ready for a job and what job?
This is a crucial question for me right now. Because I want to invest my summer to something creative.

Let’s tell some things about me.
I am 30 years old male from Greece.Yes this country with the lazy people :stuck_out_tongue: which is in economic crisis from 2009.I haven’t got the opportunity or the will to get a job before mainly because of the symptoms and a fear of failure.

I have an empty CV and I had quit my studies from a technological university on Engineering.

I had a relapse(my second) 4,5 years ago.The diagnosis was disorganized schizophrenia/hebefrenia I am in remission 1,5-2 years now. I have motivation but I have some difficulties like negative thougths and strong critical inner voice when I get tired from an activity or work and my social interaction is not the best but also not the worst.

I have some thoughts to apply for a job on tourism for a season of six months. My sister works to a hotel and I want to go with her.
The job is difficult and exhausting I think because they work 10-12 hours 7days a week.

So here I am,without the knowledge of myself for his capabilities to a country with little opportunities, zero social benefits( I can’t get on disabilities because I didn’t went to a hospital) and minimum labor rights.

I am going to see my doctor in some weeks and I will discuss this, but I want also your views on this matter.

Thanks!!

Maybe start beefing up your resume with some volunteer work to begin with. It gives you skills and gets you used to the workforce.

Tourism would be good but those hours sound exhausting so be careful. You could try work in a cafe as well.

Good luck.

Hi brightside, let me share with you some light-weight experience hopefully it is of help to you.

This is good to note. So you may want to keep an eye out for strong critical inner voice when exhausted.

Turtle has a good suggestion, you can start your “career” by volunteering yourself, such as in welfare homes.

Then, you can slowly work part-time, without supervision for some time.
I guess not many companies offer job without supervision or with no co-workers at all, but at least try to find a small company.

Finally, you can train your social interaction with full-time job once you get used to working hours and ready to work officially.

I would try to get into a hospital. If you can get benefits you’ll be able to search for a job without the stress of not having any money that would be great. I don’t know what it’s like in your country, but here we have a service that helps us get jobs. If there is something like that in Greece they will help you first if you get benefits most likely. Good luck on your job search.
