How rare is it for females to develop schizophrenia in their mid to late teens?

I’m 15 and I made a post about my symptoms already. But I’m just wondering if it’s likely or not

It’s not as likely as late 20’s, but not unheard of.

I started getting psychotic around age 15. Was diagnosed with my first psychotic disorder at 17.

I had my first psychotic symptoms at 14, but they were mild. They diagnosed me with OCD, even though I didn’t have many compulsions. My mom said looking back she’s thinkng I was prodromal with mild psychotic symptoms and severe mood symptoms.

First voices (inside ones) came to me when I was 12. That was basically the beginning of the spiral. I started stabilizing in the past two years. Im 24 now.

You are not alone. I started to have symptoms when I was about 14 years old when the doctor decided to put me off of depression medication. Then, I remained undiagnosed for several years until I became 17.
I was diagnosed in a youth psychiatric ward.
I’m in my mid twenties now.

Some girls have seen to have schizophrenia as a young child so I would not put it past anyone to have schizophrenia at 15. Male or female doesn’t matter.

Since I was a kid, I had grandiose delusions, maybe as a reaction to inferiority complex.
Solipsism since kid.
Overactive imagination etc. But I wasn’t schizophrenic yet. I was schizotypal my whole life which became schizophrenia

I’ve been psychotic since I was a small child (born female). Childhood sz is a lot rarer, but developing it in the teens is still definitely a thing that happens.

I’ve read that it’s more common for it to happen later. My mom developed schizophrenia in her late twenties yet over time it got worse and harder to convince her she needed help. I began having the worst symptoms at age 14-15.

Im not sure if schizophrenia is determined to happen in a person due to genes or life circumstances but looking back nothing could have prevented it from starting.

I’ve also always had psychiatrist unsure if I’m bipolar which statistically happens more commonly in teenage years because of hormones and stress. Bipolar mania and a Schizophrenic Episode can look the same due to factors.

If you have Bipolar and not schizophrenia it could be a good thing you know. That means the hallucinations or delusions i had were prob more brief and not permanent. I was misdiagnosed with chronic schizophrenia.

Either way it’s a really hard thing to go through . I have to take medication I’m thirty now.

Recent studies suggest that males and females actually have prodromal symptoms at similar average ages, but women take longer to become overtly psychotic, hence the later average age at diagnosis.

Anyway, it’s just averages - you may fall outside the average.
