I remember when I just had an AM radio.
But you could get stations hundreds of miles away at night. I thought that was so cool at the time.

Then in 1977 I saved up for my first stereo. It was 10 watts. But had 2 two speakers!!!

Now that I have worked for over 30 years I have big ass speakers with surround sound. And play CDs for good quality. Because MP3s sounds like they are played on tiny ears buds!

I guess that’s why people are going back to vinyl? And this is progress ?

There’s a radio here and it’s 20 years old.

My radio is fairly new, a couple of years old.

It is digital and looks like an old style radio.

I don’t even own a radio. I just use my phone or computer to stream whatever station/music/podcast I want to listen to.

I have my trusty Sony ICF-2003 FM/LW/MW/SW Receiver in hand as I type. Got it sometime around 1986.

I used to bring my shortwave radio to my babysitting jobs back in the late 70’s up to mid 80’s.
Adults gave me funny looks, but I didn’t care, once their brats were sound asleep it was only me and my Shortwave Radio to keep me from nodding off in their gawd-awful, mind-numbing boring house.

Just think, there were no
personal computers or cell phones, therefore no emails, texts, internet, gaming, digital TV or VCR’s …and the TV signed off at 12AM- I still can’t hear the national anthem without that test pattern appearing in my eyeballs.
No friends or people in the house, couldn’t go anywhere either,
Gawd awful mind numbing boredom set in quickly.
Thank gawd I had my shortwave.

Anyway, my radio saved the day- more accurately the night, and I will always keep one in the house to listen to all those neat foreign shows/music/propaganda that makes me happy in my own little world.

Got one of these…

Picked it up for $2 at a garage sale because it didn’t work. Turned out to be a couple of blown CAPS. Soldered in replacements and it has worked like a champ ever since. It powers some vintage RFT tri-axles in my garage. Haven’t used the tuner ever, that I’m aware of. It connects to a home bluetooth audio gateway and runs off whatever tablet/phone I have on me.
