Just wondering roughly how much people tend to get. I know I won’t get a ton because I’m only 28 and have only worked part time but I’m curious.
It all depends on the amount you qualify for and the amount of time between the first time you applied for it and the time that you actually get it. So, there is really no way for us to know how much you would get.
For example, if you qualified for 1000 dollars a month and you were approved a year after your initial application for it you would get 12,000 dollars.
I think I got around 3 grand
I looked it up just to be sure that I had everything correct and it says that you usually get backpay starting one full month after your initial application(although it did say “sometimes sooner”) so in my scenario it might be 11k instead of 12k, but you get the general idea.
I got about $2000. My friend applied for benefits in 1978 and didn’t awarded until 1985. He got a back payment for 25 grand.
My back payment was significantly higher than 77nick77’s friend(I edited out the exact amount, because I didn’t feel comfortable sharing). But I waited several years for mine too. I should warn you that it took them a VERY long time to actually pay it out to me. I had almost forgotten about mine when it finally arrived. I wasn’t even sure if I was ever going to get it. So, if you are approved, I wouldn’t count on that money any time soon.
I also worked for 25 years prior to applying so I wouldn’t count on that much.
I didn’t have to wait very long to get approved. It was only a few months. I can’t really remember exactly I think it was around $8000.
