Has anyone actually communicated with fellow sufferers about their common experiences of schizophrenia in real life as opposed to just writing on this forum?
There’s lots of szs and szas at my clubhouse. Most of them are not as high functioning as i am, tho. But there’s a wide range of functionality at the clubhouse.
my first wife was sz too. met her on this forum on the old forum…won’t ever marry another sz because when one is semi stable it affects the psyche of the sane one and then you both are out of it and spinning down. so I am married to a normal now…much safer atmosphere…been together 11 years now.
I think when I was working as a massage therapist at a place in 2019, there was a woman with schizophrenia.
One day, she rattled off that she wasn’t going to see a doctor anymore and said she had a diagnosis of schizophrenia, among other physical ailments.
The atmosphere was so laid-back that nobody said anything. I mean, no one even flinched.
The thing that was different about her is she would come in smelling like she didn’t take a shower, or under arm body odor, and there were also days that she smelled like illegal drugs too.
At least 10 in the psych ward.
Just one that I know of for sure. I met him in hospital, he said they were going to put him on clozapine.
I was thinking of people you might know who are currently functioning well.
I was having a conversation with someone who described the same symptoms as myself regarding decoding and misinterpreting everything!
Probably more than think but only 2 from those I know. none related.
I see @Applemac. I don’t think I’ve ever run into anyone else.
The only time I was hospitalized, I didn’t know anybody’s diagnosis. I take that back, maybe there were two women who said they had bipolar disorder and another woman said she had major depression.
I didn’t even know what my diagnosis was until I was discharged. So, I couldn’t have an intelligent conversation about a diagnosis with anyone.
In the clozapine clinic there’s plenty
Most of us think we’re trying to kill each other
Not healthy
Very strange atmosphere
idk my cousin might have sz
idk its either bipolar or sz from what i’ve been told
I’ve was friendly with 2 others in my local area. In total I’ve met 4 people with scizophrenia.
There are some clients in the ACT program I’m in who have schizophrenia and seem to be functioning well.
Everyone ive met is same or worse than me struggles and is noticeably different. I met them all in hospital and supported living , made friends with a few for a while but it didnt last because we were all too unstable and unreliable i guess
None. When I was hospitalized like years and years ago in the US, probably there were some. But, I didn’t interact with them as such. I have never interacted live with someone with schizophrenia/affective. though I know many people who are bipolar.
I had a friend in 8th grade who was diagnosed with sz, and had a cousin who was diagnosed with it too but she passed away and the family always hid it from everyone
A friend of mine once said. Look around. There are plenty of you to be found. It was.
Then that I realized I was stuck in a world of schizophrenics.
Quite a few, never kept in contact with most. One or two i still have contact details for, don’t like like them as people though
I mix with loads of people with all manner of Mental illness at my clubhouse, I also know at least 4 people with it locally, I was doing art with a girl who has it this morning actually, she functions very well, is pretty too. my whole world is Mental illness, i know more people with a MI than i do without.
Not really. My in person experiences were less than auspicious because the others with SZ were all so low-functioning. I seek out interesting people. If they have SZ, fine. If they don’t, also fine.
