How many of you get extreme withdrawals

When tapering or switch meds especially antipsychotics

I didnt get withdrawals unless when I stopped my Risperdal on my own abruptly in one night and took a full Latuda dose the same night. I had extreme headaches, brain zaps and tremors, psychotic symptoms and felt really bad.

I was lucky as I was nearing full psychosis and decided to take 5mg Risperdal on my own instead of the prescribed 3mg which wasnt working anymore, 4mg didnt work either. Now I am stable on 4mg. Maybe if I didnt mess with meds I would still be on 3mg.

It’s weird.

If I taper down I get horrible withdrawals, but before pdocs have abruptly stopped an AP and switched to another, and I was ok.

Olanzapine and Diazepam have been pretty rough meds for me to discontinue

I stopped Zyprexa abruptly when I switched to Abilify. Maybe that’s causing my sleep problems? I also stopped a low dose of Klonopin.

Me personally - Olanzapine made me a zombie who slept most of the time, whereas Abilify was so activating I ended up psychotic.

Keep an eye on it.

These things can affect people in very different ways, so it’s hard to say what might happen

Hope your pdoc is keeping a good eye on progress.

I like the Abilify and not being sedated. I just saw a pdoc a week ago.

I can’t sleep properly when I go down to 2,5mg zyprexa, I think this in turn causes other symptoms. Not sleeping is a recipe for mental problems.

In my 20’s I got extreme withdrawals from Effexor. It was called electric shock syndrome and that’s exactly what it felt like. It would happen all the time though not just when I went off it. My doctor wouldn’t help me step down so I ended up going off it cold turkey and it drove me crazy.
