Yes. I have tried going off and it always ends badly. I understand I am on APs permanently.

I will try to go off them if I notice that my mental health has improved significantly. If that does not happen, heck maybe I’ll try years in to the future anyway. But I get that I may have to stay on them for life.

I’ll never come off them but I hope to reduce the dosage.

Actually I don’t think I can go below 5mg.

I entertain hopes of reducing the number of meds I’m on and of reducing the dosages as well, as I get older. I’ve noticed a definite improvement in my psychotic symptoms over the last month or so. I’m leaving dosage adjustments up to my pdoc.

I personally believe it’s not a thought disorder,

it’s a brain disorder that cause thought issues.

Meds help the brain which results , right thoughts.

Hope I am made sense.

Here in Norway the guidelines for meds state that for a first episode the treatment is for 2 years, and in the case of a relapse the treatment lasts for 5 years, if not longer. I relapsed last year and so I’ll be on my meds for at least another 4 years, whether or not I’ll ever be able to live without meds is difficult to say.
I’m currently on Paliperidone Palmitate, which is a lifesaver in a lot of ways, I read it functions as an inverse agonist at the dopamine receptors sites, so it only reduces dopamine, but it doesn’t block it completely. It works pretty well for me.
To answer your third question though, it’s in the general guidelines here in Norway to give the lowest effective dose. I’ve heard in other countries people are often over prescribed meds, and I heard a rumor that some psychiatrists get paid by specific drug companies for writing out specific prescriptions, which is dubious.
On another note though, I’m on a depot which is really neat. I don’t have to remember to take pills, and apparently depot medication leads to much more stable blood levels of the medicine. I read that patients that are on depot medications are much less likely to relapse as well. It’s so helpful, I’m the most stable I’ve ever been in over a decade. Hopefully it keeps working me :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We tried taking me off meds when I was 19

But by 23 it came back and much worse plus without illegal drugs

Took a very long time to get where I am now

I plan on being on meds for life. Without them I will no doubt deteriorate.
