I have not been on any medication since 2013. Howver, things are getting really bad again and my doctor prescribed me 2mg of abilify for my psychotic symptoms, which will be increased to 4mg if I don’t feel any better after 1 week.
How long until this starts working? 1 week seems too soon, from what I’ve read.
Also, can anyone else who has taken this medication share their experience?
That is really small dose. I got 5mg and I’m not even sz lol .
Anyway…what I was about to say… Yes, I hope it doesn’t mess with sleep because that’s the last thing I need.
I thought it was low too, after reading what the average doses are, online. My psychiatrist does not ever seem to take me very seriously, for some reason, so that could be why. I just hope it helps me.
Sleep is an issue for me, too.
When I was put on Abilify I got amped up by it. I got a substantial increase in physical strength, which is odd for an antipsychotic. Different meds can affect people differently. I was on it for about a year, but then they decided they should take me off it.
Did it work well as an antipsychotic?
I was told it would help make the voices and the demons go away.
My symptoms were under control when they put me on Abilify. I’d been on Geodon and Seroquel for several years. My symptoms didn’t get any worse while I was on Abilfiy, but there weren’t any symptoms there to be removed by this med.
Abilify should take 2-3 weeks. I’m a psychology major and used to be a neuroscience major. It’s unlike the other antipsychotics. The science behind it is quite complicated.
Okay, this scares me…
2 - 4mg of Abilify is a tiny dose, it wont help psychosis at this small dose.
10mg usually starts helping psychotic symptoms.
Abilify usually can take up to a month or more before it starts"working" fully.
If sleep is an issue, then u can try Melatonin. It’s better than benzo. The only side effect is that i have drowsiness in the morning. But it fades away quickly. Hope thats will help.
I wonder why this was prescribed for me, then…
As I mentioned earlier, my psychiatrist does not take me seriously; he thinks I am confused and deranged. It seems he is just playing along with what I say, all the while mocking me silently in his mind.
He scares me a lot and I cannot communicate to him very efficiently.
If you have schizophrenia, then 10mg is the minimum dose of abilify you should be on. 4mg is like a placebo with side effects. Unless you’re an adolescent.

I am 21, and I have no official diagnoses. I use this site, after discovering through my own research that schz is possibility, judging by my symptoms. It has helped me immensely!
I had to resort to searching my symptoms, myself on the web, because my doctor and therapist do not listen to me.
Isn’t placebo when they trick your brain, with low or no meds? I have read very little about this.
I don’t know what your doctor is doing to be honest…
