How long does it take you to fall asleep?

How long does it take you to fall asleep? How long is a normal or acceptable amount of time? 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 1 hour, longer?

I’m asking because I am wondering if I should bring this up to my dr or not (my sleep troubles).

It should take me about an hour. That’s the way it always was. But I developed restless leg syndrome after taking taurine and now it takes about 3 hours ! :worried:

I stopped taking taurine and my restless leg syndrome is slowly getting better.

About 30-60min. Sometimes I don’t really sleep though. Insomnia for 9 years.

@everhopeful oh no! 3 hours is miserable when you have restless leg syndrome. I have had that off and on due to different medications. Not fun! I’m glad it is slowly getting better though!

@Mr_Hope Oh no! Insomnia for 9 years is awful! I know you are in the middle of a med swap too. I really hope you can find a solution to this issue very soon.

It takes me about 1-2 hours to fall asleep and it sort of stinks because the olanzapine has worn off by this point so the voices can get nasty. I don’t know why 30 mg of olanzapine doesn’t knock me out in 15-30 minutes anymore. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

It’s better after I got off generic zyprexa and started on original about 7 months ago. At least now life is bearable.

Oh good to know! I currently take generic olanzapine wafers but long ago I took brand name zyprexa zydis. @Mr_Hope

Yeah. I started on original in 2007. Then generic became available around 2011-2012. Until 2014 they gave me sometimes generic and sometimes original. But then a little later they gave me generic only. It took me forever to connect the dots that the generic was causing insomnia and also a very bad connection between mind and body, dissensation. They actually sometimes use zyprexa as a pain killer for people who are terminal ill with cancer.

Anyways my health has started slowly improving after I started original zyprexa with better sleep and better sensation. But it still carries side effects like sleep problems and very low libido, restlessness and ocd. This is why I am trying to switch meds.

@Mr_Hope oh ok! Thanks so much for all of this information that you have shared with me! That’s all very good to know. I wasn’t aware of any of that.

I really understand why you chose to do a med swap now. I hope I won’t have to! Olanzapine works so well for me. I have some trouble falling asleep but once I’m asleep I’m out cold the entire night. Hopefully it will be ok.

It depends on how loudly my wife is snoring. She has sleep apnea that she refuses treatment for. It’s like being next to an industrial wood chipper some nights.

At least an hour.
