How grocery price conscious are you

I am very conscious. I compare prices in different stores and then I always check prices before buying anything. Grocery prices have just risen in this year and I do not want to be blind when it comes to current inflation figures.

My shop has gone up a lot too.

They put the price up for supermarket own label cola from 60p to 80p for 2 litres, but the other day I noticed it was 60p again!

But overall my shopping has gone up from about ÂŁ45 to ÂŁ60 a week

I just go to the closest store, but buy some things like coffee in bulk online because it’s much cheaper.

We spend about ÂŁ100 a week on groceries and that isnt even adding any snacks. We used.to be able to get loads of snacks and all our food for ÂŁ80 a week.

I don’t compare prices between stores, I shop at the same store every week and just pay attention to sales. Our grocery bill has gone up about $30-$40 a week.

Probs in the “moderate” category:

I do notice when the prices of things I regularly buy go up or down. Usually if they go up, I’ll still buy them, but begrudgingly so— until I can find a good and less expensive alternative.

For other stuff that I may consider a treat-buy, I usually wait until that item is on sale, or just find something similar or another treat all together.

I’ve defos been buying less expensive stuff and still paying the same— if not more— for my usual amount of groceries.

I consider myself fortunate enough to only be moderately affected by price gouging.

Grocery prices have skyrocketed here. I still get good deals, but even the cheap stuff I used to buy is .25 to 1.00 higher.

Meats are outrageous. So is fresh produce. I tried a few months ago to not buy any meat a few trips and spent nearly the same amount! So going vegetarian isn’t going to help.

And the processed plant based foods are ridiculous in price.

So, I’ve decided to cut everything from our grocery bill and just starve, it’s the most cost efficient. :upside_down_face:

For about week of food it’s $200 for two people.

That doesn’t include paper products or dog food.

I go to the cheapest grocery store in town for all my essentials,

Go to a local chain grocery store for meats and items the previous store didn’t have,

And costco for paper products.

All the least expensive options.

It’s a ■■■■■■■ circus.

Shouldn’t cost that much to live.

Chicken has doubled in price, pork has more than doubled here in California.

I don’t know what to do.

I’m spending fliff money and getting less stuff.

Very frustrating.

Well, I’m freaking out a little honestly. I’ve been blessed to be able to keep a well-stocked pantry up until now. I have even been feeding another family and supplementing my grown children by having them over very frequently and buying things for them to take with them.

With the increased cost of my weekly shopping I’m no longer able to afford to replenish the pantry and it’s emptying quickly. I’m not feeding the other family anymore, but I have an adult kid with me full-time who eats like a football player.

Looking at the food that is in the house, the money that is in the bank ($8), and the food stamps that are on the card ($15), and that payday is 5 days away, I don’t know that being grocery price conscious is even going to help me anymore.

I went to the store today and bought food and drinks. Here are prices in three different currencies: EURO, British pound and USD.

Item € £ $

Milk 2 liters 1.58 1.36 1.57
Orange juice 1 liter 1.78 1.53 1.77
Meat pies (4 pies) 1.65 1.42 1.64
Cheese sausage (4 sausages) 2.79 2.39 2.78
10 eggs 2.15 1.84 2.14

Total 9.95 8.54 9.92

What do you think? The table did not come well when I posted it here. If anybody knows how to format the table better on the forum, please let me know.

The price of meat has skyrocketed. That’s why people steal a lot of meat here in Sweden. They have put cameras in the meat section in the store nearby where I live at.

I wish they could sell deer meat but they don’t because I live on the west coast. They only sell it in the northern parts of Sweden.

That’s tough. Stealing is wrong by all means, but stealing food and other basic essentials is just sad and pretty grim, and honestly shouldn’t need to happen given the fact that we now consider access to the Internet to be a basic human right of all things— yet we still can’t feed people :woman_shrugging:.

I saw a guy get stopped at my local grocery store because he set off the alarms walking out the door. Loss Prevention was making him empty his bags while checking his receipt to look for any discrepancies.

…Dude had a head of lettuce and some other small items— he wasn’t out there jacking surf and turf.

Hope he’s alright.

I know what you mean. Someone was telling produce isn’t expensive, and I was wondering which planet they come from. Maybe they meant cheaper than other stuff at the store. I don’t hardly eat meat anymore.

Whatever food has the lowest unit price is what I buy.

Yeah, but I think these people aren’t deprived of anything. They just steal because they are cheap. That’s the story what I’ve heard.

Not conscious enough. My shopping bill has nearly doubled in the last year (I’m in the UK) and my habits are the same.
Im trying to buy less manufactured stuff and make more of my own meals as it is cheaper but its difficult to find the energy to do all the time.

The store I go to 5 minutes from my house has some good deals. They print a circular that I get in the mail once a week with all the things on sale. Usually, there are at least three or four things that i would normally buy on sale.

I actually just got through shopping and I’m In my car at the grocery store parking lot. I got some good deals today. They have something called a “Pick 5” where you can buy packages of meat for $5 apiece if you buy 5 at once. So I bought a package of steak, some pork chops, some ribs, some more steak and ground beef, all for $5 apiece. Saved $30.

They had 4 lb packages of chicken for $5 too but I got some chicken at home. Ground beef is typically about $4.99 to $7.99 per pound but it was on sale today for $1.99 a lb so I bought a 3 lb chub for $6.00. I’ll freeze half the meat I bought and eat it over a period of a month or two.

Prices are redicuosly high as you guys all say but today I really scored. 12 packs of Coke were “buy two, get three free” so I bought 5 12 packs which works out to about $3.50 each which is about as good a price as you’re going to get.

Very happy with the savings today.

We (my family) have always been very price cautious and we even have a shopping club with some neighbours. We know we’re paying 40% more over this time last year on average. The grocery prices are doubling the rate of inflation - the grocery stores are bending us over and giving it to us.

Hey @Kxev, you said you were paying too much for K-cups? We use these:

We fresh grind coffee beans just before we brew and spoon it into two reusable cups. This way we don’t wind up wasting half a pot of coffee, but we’re not paying a fortune on K-cups and spewing all kinds of trash into the environment.
