How grocery price conscious are you

Ohh I see. Yea, cheap and starving are two very different things.

One time I also witnessed a lady stealing like, 20 ribeye steaks and a whole bunch of ground beef at the store. She literally just piled everything into a cart and tried to waltz out the store. Brazen as hell, if I may say . Was in a more affluent town as well. Needless to say, LP caught her ass and she got a free ride to the police station :grimacing:.

…Who knew grocery stores were such shiitshows ?

I was watching a customer next to me at the self-checkout scanning a cheap item with an expensive piece of meat over top and then put the unscanned meat in their bag. Notified the staff as they were leaving and they got busted. I heard they got some TLC from the po po. This was a couple of months back.

Can you go to food banks?

I’m sorry, that is a very stressful situation.

I only shop at walmart because they are the least affected for high prices…sometimes I’ll notice hamburger is way up but buy it anyways.

I go to aldi when I can as they are cheapest but I have to travel to get there.

Sometimes I just shop local so I don’t have to travel.

I don’t buy fresh fruit or vegetables just frozen as it’s cheaper.

Today my boyfriend is buying expensive capsicum and expensive parsley to make a salad for his daughter but that doesn’t happen often that we buy things like that fresh.

Last I saw a capsicum was $4 for just one.super expensive.

I’m very good at knowing when prices have gone up, but not so good at adjusting my shopping list accordingly. I do look at the prices in terms of Ā£/kg etc cost and also product ratings, but am not very adventurous re trying alternatives. My daughter does my shopping for me. This week I thought I 'd try some cheaper options from a budget brand. They weren’t available . The only available alternative for one of them was around x2 as expensive.

It does seem to me that whether it be food prices, energy costs etc etc we’re seeing the very worst of how a capitalist economy can be. Things are also not helped by Brexit related product shortages.

I only buy from the neighbourhood mini mart that I can walk to, so I just accept the prices there as the price I have to pay for convenience. I set a daily budget and spend within that budget.

I mostly grocery shop online to better compare prices then have it delivered. During the spring, summer and early fall months majority of my produce comes from my garden.

In the winter, I go to a neighborhood store that has a wide selection of excellent quality produce at very low prices. Example: 4 bell peppers (any color) for a $1.00, 10 pounds of potatoes for $3.00, 10 pounds of onion for $1.50 etc. You can also get mango, dragon fruit, star fruit, figs and other exotic fruits and veggies from there. It’s a nice store lol.

It sounds great that you get your own produce. Do you have a big garden?

It’s still not as bad as things were in Soviet bloc countries. The stores may have only carried one thing and it was affordable, it was just rarely ever in stock.

Related… It used to cost about $90 for an oil change for a vehicle last year. This year it’s $210 for the same oil change for my wife’s van. Did it myself today for $60. Who can afford to pay $150 extra for 20 minutes of labour? Arseholes.

I sold my car in 2014, over 8.5 years ago and ever since I have been riding my bicycle. It is much cheaper in this way. Maintaining cars can be quite expensive.

My country is somewhat larger than yours. One cannot function without a vehicle here when living outside of a major urban centre.

My husband does our oil changes too.

I don’t dispute that. I guess I just want an economic system, be it capitalism or something else, where people behave in an ethically and morally responsible way at times like this.

People are people. No matter what the system is.

I don’t think this is going to get better for a while. People seem to be less focused on helping others now than they were in my youth.

I agree, people are always people with needs.

I suppose you live in the USA. Yes, there a vehicle is needed. When I lived in the USA, I had two automobiles, first Volvo 240DL and then Mazda 626. Here where I am now no car is needed. I think that bicycling is great exercising too. I also see other people, occasionally sit on the park benches and so on.
