How does one check for recovery?

Is there a clinical way to check for recovery? I’m 40, ill for 20, and I do not hear voices. I take Olanzapine, the past 15 years or so. How does one know when recovery has taken place? Should I speak with my physician? My psychiatrist? My psychologist? A pastor? The Pope?

Symptomatically. Recovery usually is signaled by improvement/resolution of your symptoms.

Well, you work, you communicate brightly here, you’re looking to date. I’d say you’re recovered.

I don’t know what your symptoms are like though??

symptoms: sleep apnea so tiredness. poor memory :smile_cat:

Oh, I don’t know, I think those are normal people symptoms.

I don’t know any normies with good memory. I know a lot of normies with sleep apnoea and tiredness is common.

trouble concentrating. this should go on the other post.

I have stopped taking olanzapine for three days to see where im at. But the fact that i started taking olanzapine after three days again sais im doing good cause i could notice myself i need meds again in a full blown psychosis after not taking the med for three days.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as recovered. You’re always “in” recovery. Or your symptoms are in remission. I’d be interested to hear what your psychiatrist says.

Have u asked ur psychiatrist how long u need to stay on the AP?

Are you experiencing a lot of positive, psychotic symptoms? Are you depressed or manic? Are you suicidal or homicidal? If you answered no to all of these questions, and you communicate with others well and you are working or volunteering and are taking good care of yourself then I’d say that you are recovered. Just stay on your meds.

Man, you’ve been holding on to this disease for a long time. Respect. Really. But the extent to which you are recovering depends on your functioning. How do you get through the day? If you go through the days easily, you can speak of reasonable recovery. the disease image always gets less over time.

I’ll broach the subject next time I see him. I’m as curious as you!

Life is normal. I have a job, a few friends, hobbies, and I am looking to add more. Like to travel more, date, and have a bigger network of friends. All of my symptoms are relatively check though I do have an addiction to cannabis. If I could quit, that would be ideal. Life is good I can’t complain.

No, I haven’t. I will next time I see him, I think in two months.

Cos it depends if u think recovery means coming off the AP.

nice bro, keep it up.
and if you have your cannabis addiction just under the control. what does it matter?

you’re right it doesn’t. but when you have parents as roommates it causes friction. next move: move!
