How do you survive traveling with sz?

I’m traveling soon with my sister. I’m apprehensive about the 12 hour flight and finding my around the foreign country. Sometimes I have unforseen psychosis. What to you reccomend I do in such cases?

Statistically airplane flights are very safe. If i remember correctly, there is more chance to be struck by lighntining.

You should be okay.

I recommend to do breathing exercices/meditation on a regular basis before and during the flight

If you have a fragrance that soothes you, put It on your wrist so you can smell that

If music makes you calm, listen to soft music, without words so it doesn’t create delusions

I hope you’ll enjoy your travel

A sleeping tablet and calming medication and a list on what to do if unwell.

Sleep as much as possible.

Try feel experience it as a exiting adventure to look forward to not dread.

Set boundaries.

Say no to your sister need it be and demand space or alone time if you need it.

Hope you have a nice holiday.

I cant afford to travel as such but even if i could i would be afraid.

Afraid of being overwhelmed and bullied anx attacked or set up etc .

I would travel again under right circumstances .

N it should feel safe n love n free n i should feel like myself etc

I always have my injection right before traveling and take Haloperidol tablets as PRN when I go away and any sign of me becoming unsettled I take the Haloperidol without hesitation. I get full comprehensive insurance and declare everything, this is very expensive but gives me pease of mind and is worth it and you must declare everything, like any diagnosis you’ve had even if your cured and don’t suffer from it anymore, if its in your medical records you must declare. I don’t mean if you diagnosis has changed from Bipolar to SZ, I only declare the SZ. But I had a hip condition when I was 5 and in hospital, I declare the hip condition even though I haven’t suffered from it for 30 years. Travel insurance companies will do everything to disallow a claim.

I have travelled on both package holidays where everything is included, these are the easiest holidays as everything is done for you. I have solo travelled backpacking in South Asia and what I do is plan everything. I make sure I have enough money, 3 debit cards with funds, one kept in backpack/suitcase in hotel room as an emergency. Use proper bank ATM’s so if your card gets swallowed you have the possible of getting your card back from the bank. I make sure I have enough money on each bank card for a flight home. The most important things when you travel is your passport and bank cards and mobile phone so I make sure I’m extra careful with them. I take photocopies of passport with me and keep them separate from passport. I also email photo of passport to myself.

I’m meant to be saving up for a trip to china which i forgot about till i saw this. I’m scared of the travel but as I’ll be going with my mum, there’s no opportunity to be scared (if i’m scared, what will she think)

Personally I don’t take sleeping aids on aeroplanes. Flying 10 hours plus is tiring but I always feel energised when I’m at my destination. I made a taxi driver friend in Sri Lanka and I get him to pick me up and he’s honest and reliable. I prebook my hotel/guesthouse months before.

what I find really useful is take my messenger bag which is always on my person around my shoulder and I never take it off when out and about. I never leave anything important of my person even like next to me in a taxi or the boot/trunk where they can be easy to grabbed by somebody. It’s always on my shoulder. I also have a person who can transfer me money by wire in my country. You can only receive wired money if you have a passport so it’s really important to make sure your passport is safe at all times. I always put my passport in my zipped compartment in my messenger bag and have it drilled in my head to put it in same place all the time. Also If you rent a motorbike always wear a helmet and never hand your passport over to anybody on condition of renting the bike or at any accommodation.

If you lose your passport make sure you know where your embassy is in the country. I was in Goa so I knew I had to get from Goa to New Delhi which is about 2000 miles away by train… Thats where your photocopied passport comes in handy. They’ll issue you a temporary passport to travel.

I really don’t. I avoid air travel now. I’m able to handle a lot, but this one is beyond me.
