I’ve tried lots. And i’m really hoping this abilify works and I can be on it for many years.
Just curious though, how did you find the right ap for you? Did you do your own research? Psychiatrist suggest it? Or?

Mine was a lot of trial-and-error. Adjustments when needed. I remain close with my psychiatrist and my husband helps me watch for symptoms, so we know if somethings off.
I just choose latuda based upon the side effect profile. The common/popular and also newer ones are generally a little better then the old ones. Risperidone, Paliperidone, Olanzapine all good options if you need to control strong symptom or need sedation. Try something less sedating/metabloic effect and but works less for positive symptoms if you can get away with it. Try dopamine modulators instead of antagonists. Use Clozapine or other combinations if you have TRS. I don’t see it as being overly complicated. Pdocs would have a better understanding of the individual medications but it’s still a lot guess work
I didn’t find the right meds for me. My pdocs did. It took them 33 years!
Took me years of trial and error, we finally tried Zyprexa because when my Granddad was delusional from Parkinson’s they had to find an effective AP for him and the only one he could tolerate was Zyprexa. We figured since I share his genetics maybe it would work for me too. Turns out it did, we just had to spend a year getting the dose just right.
I suggested Risperidone to my previous psychiatrist and Shazam!!!
Instant stability!
It was amazing
A ton of experimentation and, years later, a trial on the “strongest” AP (clozapine). I had to advocate relentlessly to get on this med, as my last pdoc wanted me to stay on depot Abilify and Haldol cuz she was afraid I’d OD on oral meds. The clozapine has helped me a LOT, altho I hate the sedation and crazy food cravings.
I dropped the soap in the shower. I bent over to pick it up, and…
Yeah.
For me it’s been a huge system of trial and error. Doing really good on Lybalvi right now.
I tried a ton of them. Dose matters too. I don’t wanna go up on dose too fast because i find it better to make sure a lower dose wont work by giving it time to work. Cause the higher the dose the more side effects.
I’ve only been on one
It’s like finding a.needle in a hay stack to find the right meds combo. The first 10 years we worked on finding the right combo. I often had to say ■■■■ happens and then I restarted on a new combo.
