wouldn’t guilt/shame be too much? of course you could say that he wasn’t capable of shame which i agree… but it’s odd how people who stomp on others rise to the top and become an icon of high-functioning. for normal people the guilt would overpower their faculties.
People’s sense of guilt can be trickier than you might think. A Nazi might feel super guilty about not being devoted enough to the Nazi party and not being a rabid enough anti-Semite. Because the allies won the war they now feel guilty about the horrors they perpetrated, but if they had won World War II they would still feel guilty if they were not rabid enough Nazis. I don’t know if “high functioning” is the correct term for Hitler, but he did have an devastating impact. In that sense he was high functioning.
He didn’t feel guilt or shame because he wrongly believed that he was right.
I don’t believe the term “high functioning” applies to Hitler. It goes without saying that he was high functioning.
Just look at the scope of his actions. He convinced a nation to believe in his point of view whether it was sick, twisted, or inhumane. His speeches inspired millions of people. He almost achieved his goal of world domination. As a newly diagnosed schizophrenic in 1980 I was called high functioning because I could catch a bus. Hitler overran Poland, France, and some countries in Africa. Do me and him really compare?
I don’t think anyone has to defend whether he was high functioning or not. His views were warped, cruel and racist but his ability to inspire people was a strength that few have matched.
Hitman was on meth, cocaine and opium. That’s how he dealt with the guilt.
Meth in the 1920s?
Hitler killed himself. That’s about how high functioning he was at the end.
More like amphetamine pills but back then they were as powerful as meth so very similar.
Well, the alternative (getting ‘captured’ by the soviet) wasn’t good either…
He was smart though to try to make it look like he never died. He knew very well the grip he had on the minds of his people.
High level sociopaths are all very high functionning: genius of evil.
Despite the dozens of post-mortem diagnoses (even sz…) there is no proof that he was mentally ill.
