I worked door to door sales, I was a technician and a department manager for Office Depot, actor and model, worked at Victoria’s Secret, Hooters, cashier. That’s all I can think of right now.
Two years ago I was paying off what was originally a $7000 credit card debt. I made good size payments and after two years I got it down to about $3000. I know that sounds impossible but I cashed in a 401k and put my tax return refund towards it and that erased a big chunk of it. The way I paid it off was living on my own and I became eligible for groceries from a food bank. With the food help, I started having $300 or $400 surplus money each month and I applied it to the debt and paid it off in no time.
So I payed that off but I still qualify for groceries and I still have a surplus of money and for about the last 7 months I’ve had over $1500 in my checking account at all times. It usually is around $2100-$2400. When I started getting this much money my sisters suggested I go to a concert or something or some other kind of entertainment that I usually can afford. But I am just content to have that money always sitting there and I can pay big bills that come up.
I just walked away from my credit card debt and dodged the collections until they stopped trying to collect. These days I just use my debit.
That’s after about 8 years of perfect payment history. I’m sure my credit score is lower now, but I haven’t had a need for a good credit score in awhile. I think it’s going back up because I’m getting card offers in the mail again, but I know better than to go down that road again.
I am on a very limited budget but I am surviving. I’m pretty good at stretching a dollar
My sister keeps all my credit cards. I thought credit cards were a necessity but I have been able to get along fine without them.
You should be very proud of your success and your job. That’s something I haven’t been able to achieve yet. I did land a 30k a year job as a receptionist for an MRI facility once, and if I could go back I would urge myself not to quit… but I did quit, as I was having panic attacks and vomiting in the bathroom. Turns out I was prodromal, one year out from my first psychotic break. I did fine at the job but behind the scenes I was cracking.
I wish I could get a second shot at that job now. I only got it because a neighbor hired me, pure nepotism.
Believe it or not I charge almost all my expenses on a credit card and pay it off each month. I earn cash back that way. I know alot of people would think this is a bad idea and good way to get yourself in trouble. But I’ve been doing it for years and I’m good at it. I have a high credit score. One thing that holds it back from being even higher is the fact that I’ve never made mortgage payments.
On the budgeting site I read people say the way you handle your finances is the best way to handle credit cards, use them for all your expense and pay off in full every month.
I’m really lousy with money. I read a book and did a workbook both on personal finances and financial planning by Dave Ramsey and that taught me a lot. Dave Ramsey is a world famous financial adviser.
I came into this world with nothing. I plan to leave with that too.
I used to be good before diagnosis. Now I need to save some for bills but I’m often a victim of my whimsy. Something I like I’ll buy and enjoy myself. I like eating out and having a good time still…I plan on saving more and I’m doing pretty well lately…
I’m ok with it. In previous years, I’d save and invest. This year’s been different, Disability was reinstated with a nice unexpected windfall.
I down an iced coffee every morning aswell.
ha ha I just finished mine. But I got it at Seven Eleven not expensive Starbucks
It’s my best daily living skill by far . Some months I’ll spend more than others, but I’m not buried under a mountain of debt . Have 4 figure savings.
