Hippo (sober) bird day to me

My sobriety date is Feb 15, 1992. I’m 47 now. So I’m not only 24 years clean and sober, but I’ve now been that way for over half my life. Celebrating by going to the bar!

(A dessert bar. Heh.)

Ahah! Congrats pixel, and thanks for the inspiration. Life long sobriety scares the ■■■■ out of me, to be honest, but I’ve been managing well I think.

Congratulations @shutterbug I am sure the road was hard but worth it! Have some ice cream for me!

Congrats. I know what it takes to accomplish that. And to have long term sobriety and do all the other things you do in your life is downright amazing. We’re both miracles. We are miracles who put in the hard work and have gotten are just rewards for doing it. For everybody else reading this who wants to get clean I just want to clarify. I use the word “miracle” but I don’t want to insinuate that it was only by a special miracle that got us clean. It is possible for many other people to get clean. But our “miracle” was made possible by hard work, commitment, dedication, persistence, faith, and a host of other things.

You’ve heard the expression, 'You make your own luck". Well, me, pixel, and many others “made our own miracle”, by putting into play the attributes I listed. Congrats again.

I was going on 20 years sober since 1993 when I got diagnosed and stopped drinking.

I took up drinking for about six months or so 3 years ago.

Now it has been around two years and counting.

I have a next door neighbor who drinks from like 2-3 in the afternoon untill he goes to bed. He always is out in his drivway drinking beer. It seems to trigger me a bit and is very challenging, but no excuses for me right now.

Congratulations!

It really is hard not drinking even never having had a drinking problem. What you guys do is much more praiseworthy! I wish you many more years.
