Hiding your diagnosis?

Hey guys as above, when you meet other people do you disclose your illness, i will wait a few months before telling anyone! Thoughts?

Yes. I don’t consider it hiding. It’s no one’s business.

I don’t tell anyone. I don’t want them thinking I will kill them. My family knows and they think I’m possessed.

I don’t hide it, but I don’t volunteer the information either, unless it becomes relevant or necessary.

I only tell close family and close friends.

After I got diagnosed with schizophrenia my dad told me he thought I’d kill him if I wasn’t medicated.

I never really bring it up. So, it makes it hard to communicate about yourself, since many like to judge. Honestly, i think it can feel similar to being a former convict but presumed guilty. And, if you are on state support, that upsets many too. But, if you cant consistantly work, you just cant.

I don’t interact with many people IRLso the situation very rarely arises where I’ll mention the sz-a. .

When I go out I have my door key etc on a hidden disabilities lanyard.

I talk with my family about it if they ask. I rarely bring it up. I like to think I don’t have it still

I don’t tell people, but if I were to date again I would be upfront and tell the girl and face the potential immediate rejection, vs a certain time later and it unveiling itself, considering the wide misunderstanding of sz, it’s not a good surprise to give someone. Same if I ever make friends again I will tell them right away.

Generally I don’t like telling people until I’ve met them more than twice. Otherwise people make assumptions on what kind of person you will be.

It’s not a good idea to just go telling people you don’t know that you have SZ. Especially at the work place.
