My family either doesn’t believe there’s anything wrong with me, or they don’t know at all.

I told her I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder

Same with my family. They all believe that I’m either bipolar or that there’s nothing wrong with me. My 32 year old niece, who is diagnosed bipolar, and who doesn’t “own” her diagnosis, and takes no meds, tells me not to “own” my diagnosis of sza. Sometimes, I think she’s got kind of a point because she seems to be doing really, really good. She’s real religious and let’s her Higher Power take care of her.

I think most of my family know there is something wrong with me but don’t want to talk about it. I did tell them that I have issues with anxiety and that seemed to calm them down a bit. No one mentioned my diagnosis since.

I’m glad that works for her, but unfortunately, I don’t have much choice in the matter. If I don’t “own” my diagnosis, I end up going off meds and becoming psychotic.
